The purpose of this study is to examine the factor structure of the Insomnia Severity Index (ISI) across samples recruited from different countries. We tried to identify the most appropriate factor model for the ISI and further examined the measurement invariance property of the ISI across samples from different countries. ⋯ The factorial validity of the ISI is stable in different populations. More importantly, its invariance property across cultures suggests that the ISI is a valid measure of the insomnia severity construct across countries.

Heartbeat-evoked potentials (HEPs) in electroencephalogram (EEG) provide a quantitative measure of cardiac interoception during sleep. We previously reported reduced HEPs in children with sleep-disordered breathing (SDB), indicative of attenuated cardiac information processing. The objective of this study was to investigate the link between HEP and respiration. ⋯ The expiratory phase of respiration is primarily associated with attenuated cardiac information processing in children with SDB, establishing a pathophysiological link between breathing and HEP attenuation.

Sleep complaints are common after mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI). While recent findings suggest that sleep macro-architecture is preserved in mTBI, features of non-rapid eye movement (NREM) sleep micro-architecture including electroencephalography (EEG) spectral power, slow waves (SW), and sleep spindles could be affected. This study aimed to compare NREM sleep in mTBI and healthy controls, and explore whether NREM sleep characteristics correlate with sleep complaints in these groups. ⋯ Compared to controls, mTBI were found to have enhanced NREM beta power. However, these changes were not found to be associated with the subjective evaluation of sleep. While increases in beta bands during NREM sleep may be attributable to the occurrence of a brain injury, they could also be related to the presence of pain and anxiety as suggested in one prior study.

This study sought to characterize sleep patterns and sleep problems in a large sample of women across all months of pregnancy. ⋯ Women experience significant sleep disruption, inadequate sleep, and high rates of symptoms of sleep disorder throughout pregnancy. These results suggest that all women should be screened and treated for sleep disturbances throughout pregnancy, especially given the impact of inadequate sleep and sleep disorders on fetal, pregnancy, and postpartum outcomes.
