Case ReportsPosterior polymorphous corneal dystrophy of Schlichting. A clinical study on four families.
Posterior polymorphous corneal dystrophy of Schlichting was studied in 4 families. Nine persons were found with the typical lesions. ⋯ There were 2 sporadic cases. No corneal oedema was present, and the central corneal thickness showed normal values, which means that the corneal endothelium in this dystrophy is able to maintain a normal hydrated cornea.

Comparative StudyVariations of central corneal curvature during the first year of contact lens wear.
During hard, hydrophilic and silicone lens wear the variations of central corneal curvature in the 2 eyes of each individual were significantly correlated. Mean changes of principal radii of curvature were small in each lens group (-0.075-+0.068 mm). Hydrophilic lens wearers showed an initial mean flattening of corneal curvature, followed by a significant steepening. ⋯ Hard and silicone lenses probably exerted a mechanical moulding effect. The exact aetiology of curvature changes in hydrophilic lens wearers remains obscure. Corneal curvature changes appear less reliable than corneal oedema in the detection of lens-induced impairment.

The aim of the present work was to create a simple and cheap device for photographing the anterior segment and the media of the eye in direct illumination and by retroillumination. By illuminating the eye from a point near the centre of the anterior surface of the camera lens, the anterior segment and the media of the eye can be photographed. Pictures made in this manner and technical data for the device used are presented.

Comparative Study Clinical Trial Controlled Clinical TrialCorneal thickness in daily contact lens wear. A comparison of a low water content lens and a high water content lens.
The corneal responses to daily wear of Scanlens 75 high water content lenses, average centre thickness 0.23 mm, and of Bausch & Lomb Soflens U3 low water content lenses, centre thickness 0.07 mm, were compared. Calculations of oxygen transmissibility indicated that corneal swelling might be less for the former lenses than for the latter lenses. This assumption was proved to be correct. ⋯ Tests with thicker lenses showed that the thicker the lenses are, the more important it is to choose high water content lenses. The closed eye period increased corneal swelling in extended lens wear. The results favour a program based on certain high water content lenses and a daily wear schedule.

Case ReportsAnterior chamber haemorrhage in the newborn after spontaneous delivery. A case report.
A case report is presented of anterior chamber haemorrhage occurring in one eye in a newborn after spontaneous delivery. At the age of two weeks the anterior chamber was clear but the vitreous cloudy. At the age of five weeks the vitreous had also cleared. The infant's later development was normal and there were no disorders in the function of the eye.
