The paper briefly reviews available data on occupational exposure to nitrous oxide and health consequences in medical staff. Special attention is paid on causes of nitrous oxide contamination in occupational environment and monitoring its concentrations. On the basis of the epidemiological studies it was ascertained that nitrous oxide exerts multiple deleterious effects on human organism, especially on fertility, pregnancy, central nervous system and bone marrow.

[Levels of polychlorinated biphenyls in human milk in dependent on selected factors].
The contents of polychlorinated biphenyls in human milk were determined. The PCB levels in human milk were determined in relation to factors such as: age and weight of women, birthweight of the baby, smoking, period of breast-feeding (3-5 days, 2-4 weeks, 6-8 month) and seasons of the year. ⋯ The level of PCB in human milk increases together with age of women. The higher PCB levels were determined in human milk from women smoking cigarettes.

[Determination of the overall migration of chemicals from the plastic packaging into the aqueous models of food using the EU methods].
Overall migration from food plastic packaging to aquatic food simulants (distilled water, 3% acetic acid) was determined according to the EU methods. Testing conditions (time and temperature) reflected normal use of tested food packaging. The overall migration studies using different food simulants (distilled water, 3% acetic acid) shows that the migration rate was very low, far below the allowed limit (10 mg/dm2). ⋯ It means that the multilayer film tested does not comply with the migration limit and it can not be used as a food packaging for the sour foodstuffs of pH below 4.5. Differences between the magnitude of overall migration into distilled water (0.5-1.1 mg/dm2) and 3% acetic acid are probably due to the presence of easy washable substances into the sour medium. From that reason the application of such food packaging materials must be limited.

Radon-222 concentration in surface water, wells water and tap water in the main towns and villages which are located in area of Karkonoskie Plateau has been quantitative determined. The measurements were performed using the alpha liquid scintillation counting method. ⋯ The waterworks in Karpacz are supplied with the surface water, which main characteristic is low radon concentration (below 10 Bq/l) and with the ground water have a high radon concentration (to 541 Bq/l). Radon-222 concentration in water of individual wells was similar to concentration in the ground water.
