Case ReportsMultidisciplinary surgical management of an unusual penetrating foreign body of the face.
Facial injuries by penetrating foreign body are unusual and require specific multidisciplinary surgical management. ⋯ The site of the foreign body, precisely determined preoperatively, justified management by a multidisciplinary team to ensure rapid extraction, while limiting the risk of additional lesions. With a follow-up of 6 months, the patient did not present any sequelae of his facial injury.

Esophageal lesions following button-battery ingestion in children: Analysis of causes and proposals for preventive measures.
To study recent cases of esophageal injury due to button-battery ingestion in children presenting in pediatric ENT emergency departments of the Paris area of France (Île-de-France region), in order to propose appropriate preventive measures. ⋯ Esophageal lesions due to ingestion of button-batteries in children are almost always due to batteries larger than 20mm in diameter, mostly from devices with a poorly protected compartment, or batteries that are not individually packaged. These lesions cause serious complications in a quarter of cases and their management entails high health costs. Legislation requiring screw-secured compartments and individual blisters for batteries could have prevented 69.2% of the ingestions.

Evaluation of the impact of hearing loss in adults: Validation of a quality of life questionnaire.
The impact of hearing loss and of auditory rehabilitation (hearing aid, cochlear implant) on quality of life is a crucial issue. Commonly used questionnaires to assess quality of life in these patients (Nijmegen, APHAB, GBI) are time-consuming, difficult for patients to fill out, and show poor sensitivity to small improvements or deterioration. The objective of the present study was to validate a dedicated quality of life scale for hearing-impaired adults with or without auditory rehabilitation. ⋯ The ERSA questionnaire is easy and quick to use, reliable, and sensitive to change in hearing performance after cochlear implantation.

Review Case ReportsKikuchi-Fujimoto disease, a rare cause of lymphadenopathy in Africa. Description of the first case in Senegal and review of the literature.
Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease, or histiocytic necrotizing lymphadenitis, is a benign disease most commonly affecting adult females. It generally presents in the form of febrile cervical lymphadenopathy. This diagnosis must be considered in the setting of tropical medicine, dominated by a high prevalence of tuberculous lymphadenitis and haematological malignancies. ⋯ In Sub-Saharan Africa, the association of polyadenitis and febrile syndrome, after excluding tuberculosis and lymphomas, must raise the suspicion of rare diseases such as Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease.

Analgesia following adenotonsillar surgery in children: is Oramorph required in addition to paracetamol and ibuprofen?
Recent advice against codeine use in children prompted our unit to prescribe Oramorph as required, in addition to regular paracetamol and ibuprofen, as post-(adeno)tonsillectomy analgesia. This study investigated whether Oramorph was in fact required. ⋯ When regular paracetamol and ibuprofen are used post-(adeno)tonsillectomy, nearly three quarters of children require Oramorph as well. Prescribing Oramorph as required, in addition to regular paracetamol and ibuprofen, is appropriate following adenotonsillar surgery.
