High rate of complications associated with extrafocal kirschner wire pinning for distal radius fractures.
Kirschner wire (K-wire) fixation is a common technique aimed at treating unstable distal radius fractures. We report our experience with extrafocal K-wire fixation in the treatment of unstable distal radius fractures in 34 patients (AO classification: 10 A2, 5 A3, 14 C1, and 5 C2). The patients' median age was 63 years (range, 16-87 years). ⋯ We found a high complication rate, with 15 patients (44%) suffering from at least one of the 30 reported complications. We did not find any direct correlation between radiographic results and mobility. Although good clinical outcome may be obtained, K-wire fixation cannot be routinely recommended.

Case Reports[Concomitant fractures of the radius and scaphoid with an elbow dislocation].
A variety of associated injuries of the upper limb have been described in the literature. The authors report a case of bifocal fracture of the radius and a scaphoid fracture together with elbow dislocation. In our knowledge, this association of lesions has never previously been described.

Case ReportsClinical evaluation of two bilateral hand allotransplantations at six and three years follow-up.
We report a six and three years follow-up clinical evaluation of two bilateral hand allotransplantations from brain-dead multi-organs donors performed in two young adult traumatic hand amputees. Lifelong immunosuppressive treatment included tacrolimus, mycophenolate mofetil and prednisolone. ⋯ Although the long-term risks-benefits ratio of bilateral hand transplantation is still unknown, these two cases demonstrate that this new treatment is feasible. Further experimental and clinical research is needed to better delineate its role in the future of hand surgery.

Comparative Study[A new technique of intrafocal pinning for phalangeal neck fractures in children].
Phalangeal neck fractures are unusual, occurring mainly in children. This study aims at assessing the results of treatment of this type of fracture and presents a new technique for displaced fractures namely intrafocal pinning. ⋯ Percutaneous reduction of the displacement and pinning seems to give the best results for the treatment of displaced fractures. The surgeon aims at getting the best anatomical result whilst limiting soft tissue damage. The proposed technique seems to give good results as it allows a percutaneous reduction of the displacement and an effective means of holding the reduction. Open fractures have a poorer prognosis.

Comparative Study[Bristow-Latarjet repairs for anterior instability of the shoulder: clinical and radiographic results at mean 8.2 years follow-up].
We reviewed, at a mean follow-up of 8.2 years, clinical and radiographic results after 93 Bristow-Latarjet procedures for anterior instability of the shoulder. ⋯ Although it is a non-anatomical repair, the Bristow-Latarjet procedure provides desirable functional results.
