Migraine is a common neurological disorder of unclear pathogenesis. Recently incompetence of internal jugular vein valve (IJVVI) was found to be associated with some neurological conditions of unknown etiology such as benign cough headache, primary exertional headache or transient global amnesia. Common vascular mechanism linking transiently increased cerebral venous pressure with the above mentioned conditions was then postulated. Therefore we decided to investigate whether IJVVI may be associated with migraine. ⋯ The results of our study show no evidence for an increased prevalence of IJVVI in migraine patients.

Headache disorders cause substantial productivity losses through absenteeism and impaired effectiveness at work (presenteeism). We measured productivity losses from both causes at a heavy-manufacturing company with a largely male workforce in north-western Turkey. ⋯ The high productivity losses in a largely male workforce were surprising. Possible factors were the nature of the work - manual labour for two thirds, often heavy - and the recurring schedule disturbances of shift-work. There was a highly-disabled minority.

Rupture of a saccular intracranial aneurysm (SIA) causes thunderclap headache but it remains unclear whether headache in general and migraine in particular are more prevalent in patients with unruptured SIA. ⋯ Unruptured SIA cause a marked increase in the prevalence of migraine without aura but not in the prevalence of other types of headache.

Psychological factors can increase severity and intensity of headaches. While great attention has been placed on the presence of anxiety and/or depression as a correlate to a high frequency of migraine attacks, very few studies have analyzed the management of frustration in children with headache. Aim of this study was to analyze the possible correlation between pediatric migraine severity (frequency and intensity of attacks) and the psychological profile, with particular attention to the anger management style. ⋯ Our results suggest that children suffering from severe migraine tend to inhibit their angry feelings. On the contrary, children with low migraine attack frequency express their anger and suffer from separation anxiety.

The aims of this study were to examine whether patients' psychosocial profiles influence the location of pain, and to identify the clinical and psychosocial predictors of high levels of pain-related disability in temporomandibular disorders (TMD) patients with chronic pain at least 6 months in duration. ⋯ In conclusion, the Turkish version RDC/TMD, based on a dual axis system, may be used to screen chronic TMD patients at high-risk for pain-related disability who need comprehensive care treatment program.
