To develop a technique that allows simultaneous percutaneous implantation of both a microdialysis probe and injection catheter in order to monitor the perineural pharmacokinetics of local anaesthetics (LA) after a femoral block. ⋯ This procedure allows direct implantation of a microdialysis probe near the injection site of LA during a femoral nerve block without loosing nerve localization accuracy. This procedure has been used successfully to monitor the regional pharmacokinetics of LA after a peripheral nerve block.

Clinical Trial
Use of naltrexone to antagonize high doses of remifentanil in cats: a dose-finding study.
To determine the dose of naltrexone necessary to fully antagonize a high dose of remifentanil in cats. ⋯ Naltrexone may be useful for the treatment of opioid overdose in cats.

Comparative Study
Correlation between jugular and central venous pressures in laterally recumbent horses.
To compare and correlate right atrial pressure, which represents central venous pressure (CVP) to jugular vein pressure (JVP) in laterally recumbent horses under anesthesia. ⋯ Jugular vein pressure showed a strong correlation with CVP in healthy, euvolemic, laterally recumbent anesthetized adult horses. Thus, JVP cannot replace CVP but it may be used clinically to monitor CVP in laterally recumbent horses.

To describe the effects of alfaxalone on the canine electroencephalogram (EEG). ⋯ Alfaxalone induced biphasic changes on EEG and decreased F(50) and F(95) in halothane anaesthetized dogs.
