Randomized Controlled Trial
Midazolam, as a co-induction agent, has propofol sparing effects but also decreases systolic blood pressure in healthy dogs.
To evaluate the effects of the co-administration of midazolam on the dose requirement for propofol anesthesia induction, heart rate (HR), systolic arterial pressure (SAP) and the incidence of excitement. ⋯ The co-administration of midazolam with propofol decreased the total dose of propofol needed for induction of anesthesia in sedated healthy dogs, caused some excitement and a clinically unimportant decrease in SAP.

To correlate the demographic data of Brazilian veterinarians with their use of, attitudes towards, knowledge of and preference for continuing education regarding use of analgesics in small animal practice. ⋯ Although the number of Brazilian veterinarians believed that their knowledge in the area was lower than in other countries, the focus in pain management was similar or higher than in other countries, showing a good attitude in pain relief in animals.

To investigate the sevoflurane concentrations produced within the Stephens anaesthetic machine circuit (vaporizer in-circle system) at different fresh gas flow rates (FGFRs), temperatures, vaporizer settings and vaporizer sleeve positions when used to anaesthetize dogs of different body sizes. ⋯ The Stephens anaesthetic machine can deliver to dogs, weighing 4 kg and above, concentrations of sevoflurane sufficient or in excess of that required to maintain anaesthesia, at temperatures from 10 to 35 °C, FGFRs of 1 to 5 times the patient's estimated metabolic oxygen requirement and at any vaporizer sleeve position.

Review
A systematic review of sevoflurane and isoflurane minimum alveolar concentration in domestic cats.
The purpose of this systematic review is to summarize the results of studies which have determined the minimum alveolar concentration (MAC) of isoflurane and sevoflurane in domestic cats. ⋯ The average MAC for isoflurane was 1.71 ± 0.07% and for sevoflurane was 3.08 ± 0.4%. Methodology differed among studies, and particular attention should be paid in the future to appropriate reporting of methods to allow sound conclusions to be made from the results.

Effects of dexmedetomidine and xylazine on cardiovascular function during total intravenous anaesthesia with midazolam and ketamine and recovery quality and duration in horses.
To compare cardiovascular effects and recovery quality and duration of total intravenous anaesthesia (TIVA) with xylazine-ketamine-midazolam or dexmedetomidine-ketamine-midazolam. ⋯ Both drug combinations are suitable to maintain anaesthesia for two hours, with good cardiovascular and good to excellent recovery conditions.
