Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyCabozantinib for radioiodine-refractory differentiated thyroid cancer (COSMIC-311): a randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled, phase 3 trial.
Patients with radioiodine-refractory differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) previously treated with vascular endothelial growth factor receptor (VEGFR)-targeted therapy have aggressive disease and no available standard of care. The aim of this study was to evaluate the tyrosine kinase inhibitor cabozantinib in this patient population. ⋯ Exelixis.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Pragmatic Clinical TrialEffect of general practitioner-led versus surgeon-led colon cancer survivorship care, with or without eHealth support, on quality of life (I CARE): an interim analysis of 1-year results of a randomised, controlled trial.
Colon cancer is associated with an increased risk of physical and psychosocial morbidity, even after treatment. General practitioner (GP) care could be beneficial to help to reduce this morbidity. We aimed to assess quality of life (QOL) in patients who received GP-led survivorship care after treatment for colon cancer compared with those who received surgeon-led care. Furthermore, the effect of an eHealth app (Oncokompas) on QOL was assessed in both patient groups. ⋯ Dutch Cancer Society (KWF).

Multicenter StudyPredictors for single-agent resistance in FIGO score 5 or 6 gestational trophoblastic neoplasia: a multicentre, retrospective, cohort study.
Patients with gestational trophoblastic neoplasia who have an International Federation of Gynaecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) risk score of 5 or 6 usually receive non-toxic single-agent chemotherapy as a first-line treatment. Previous studies suggest that only a third of patients have complete remission, with the remaining patients requiring toxic multiagent chemotherapy to attain remission. As stratification factors are unknown, some centres offer multiagent therapy upfront, resulting in overtreatment of many patients. We aimed to identify predictive factors for resistance to single-agent therapy to inform clinicians on which patients presenting with a FIGO score of 5 or 6 are likely to benefit from upfront multiagent chemotherapy. ⋯ For the Portuguese translation of the abstract see Supplementary Materials section.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Comparative StudyStereotactic body radiotherapy versus conventional external beam radiotherapy in patients with painful spinal metastases: an open-label, multicentre, randomised, controlled, phase 2/3 trial.
Conventional external beam radiotherapy is the standard palliative treatment for spinal metastases; however, complete response rates for pain are as low as 10-20%. Stereotactic body radiotherapy delivers high-dose, ablative radiotherapy. We aimed to compare complete response rates for pain after stereotactic body radiotherapy or conventional external beam radiotherapy in patients with painful spinal metastasis. ⋯ Canadian Cancer Society and the Australian National Health and Medical Research Council.

Multicenter StudyColorectal cancer incidence, mortality, and stage distribution in European countries in the colorectal cancer screening era: an international population-based study.
Colorectal cancer screening programmes and uptake vary substantially across Europe. We aimed to compare changes over time in colorectal cancer incidence, mortality, and stage distribution in relation to colorectal cancer screening implementation in European countries. ⋯ German Cancer Aid (Deutsche Krebshilfe) and the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
