Left heart abnormalities in connective tissue disease patients with pre-capillary pulmonary hypertension as well as borderline mean pulmonary arterial pressure.
To describe co-existence of left heart abnormalities among case series of connective tissue disease (CTD) patients who showed pre-capillary pulmonary hypertension (PH) as well as borderline mean pulmonary arterial pressure (mPAP). ⋯ The present case series suggested some contribution of left heart abnormalities to the increase in mPAP among CTD patients with pre-capillary PH as well as borderline mPAP.

Long-term outcome of joint-preserving surgery by combination metatarsal osteotomies for shortening for forefoot deformity in patients with rheumatoid arthritis.
We report the long-term outcome of joint-preserving surgery by combining metatarsal osteotomies for shortening for forefoot deformity in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). ⋯ With good perioperative medical management of RA, surgical repositioning of the metatarsophalangeal joints by proximal metatarsal shortening and consequent relaxing of the surrounding soft tissue shows successful long-term results.

Effects of hip joint center location and femoral offset on abductor muscle strength after total hip arthroplasty.
The purposes of this study were 1) to examine the changes in the hip joint center (HJC) position and the femoral offset (FO) after total hip arthroplasty (THA) and 2) to investigate the effects of the HJC and FO on isometric abductor muscle strength. ⋯ The HJC was reconstructed medially and superiorly, and the change in the FO after THA was influenced by the change in the horizontal distance of the HJC. Multiple regression analysis revealed that the medial and inferior HJC and increase in the FO constitute an effective procedure for restoring abductor strength.

Chronological changes in baseline disease activity of patients with rheumatoid arthritis who received biologic DMARDs between 2003 and 2012.
The use of biologic disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (DMARDs) for rheumatoid arthritis (RA) has been increasing since 2003. In this study, we evaluated changes in the characteristics of patients receiving biologic DMARDs daily, in Japan. ⋯ Baseline disease activity of RA patients who received biologic DMARDs between 2003 and 2012 has changed from high to moderate in daily practice in Japan.
