Controlled Clinical Trial
Treatment of acute vestibular neuronitis with glucocorticoids.
To report the effects of glucocorticoid treatment of acute vestibular neuronitis on recovery of vestibular function and length of hospital stay. ⋯ Glucocorticoids administered within 3 days after onset of vestibular neuronitis improves long-time recovery of vestibular function and reduces length of hospital stay.

To assess the duration of hearing preservation from time of vestibular schwannoma middle fossa decompression with short-term and 1-year hearing preservation rates. ⋯ Middle fossa decompression for vestibular schwannoma can prolong hearing in patients with hearing changes in an only hearing ear. Understanding the duration of hearing preservation can enable more effective counseling of patients considering middle cranial fossa decompression for vestibular schwannoma.

To prospectively assess the quality of life (QOL) and hearing acuity in vestibular schwannoma (VS) patients after gamma knife surgery (GKS). ⋯ No significant decline in global QOL occurred after GKS with relatively short follow-up and approximately 50% survey completion. When discussing therapy options with VS patients, anticipated treatment-related QOL outcomes should be considered.

To prospectively assay the vestibular and oculomotor systems of blast-exposed service members with traumatic brain injury (TBI). ⋯ Vestibular function testing confirms a greater incidence of peripheral vestibular hypofunction in dizzy service members with blast-related TBI relative to those who are asymptomatic. Additionally, oculomotor abnormalities and/or nystagmus consistent with central involvement were present in 10 of the 24 study participants tested. The precise cause of these findings remains unknown.
