Review Meta AnalysisOmega-3 fatty acids for postoperative atrial fibrillation: alone or in combination with antioxidant vitamins?
The effects of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) on the prevention of postoperative atrial fibrillation (POAF) are inconclusive in current studies. Moreover, the most appropriate composition of PUFA to play the protective role is unclear. The aim of this meta-analysis was to ascertain the protective role of PUFA on POAF and the most appropriate composition. ⋯ Combination therapy with PUFA and vitamins C and E is effective in the prevention of POAF while PUFA alone is not. The ratio of EPA/DHA may influence the incidence of POAF, and 1:2 may be most appropriate. Studies about PUFA on the prevention of POAF are still worthwhile to be conducted in the future.

Case ReportsTranscatheter mitral valve repair in osteogenesis imperfecta associated mitral valve regurgitation.
Osteogenesis imperfecta is associated with increased prevalence of significant mitral valve regurgitation. Surgical mitral valve repair and replacement are feasible but are associated with increased risk of bleeding and dehiscence of implanted valves may occur more frequently. The present case report describes the outcomes of transcatheter mitral valve repair in a patient with osteogenesis imperfecta. ⋯ Transcatheter mitral valve repair is feasible and safe in patients with osteogenesis imperfecta and associated symptomatic significant mitral regurgitation.

Multicenter Study Clinical TrialPrevalence of venous thromboembolic events and diagnostic performance of the wells score and revised geneva scores for pulmonary embolism in patients with interstitial lung disease: a prospective study.
To determine the prevalence of venous thromboembolism (VTE) in patients with connective tissue disease-related interstitial lung diseases (CTD-ILD) and idiopathic interstitial pneumonia (IIP) and to further evaluate associated risk factors. To also examine the diagnostic performance of the Wells score and the revised Geneva scores for diagnosing pulmonary embolism (PE) in ILD patients. ⋯ VTE can be seen in approximately one fourth of patients with CTD-ILD or IIP and the Wells score and the revised Geneva score can be used for categorising PE risk.

Meta Analysis Comparative StudyFive-year outcomes for first generation drug-eluting stents versus bare-metal stents in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction: a meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials.
Drug-eluting stent (DES) implantation has been proved more effective compared with bare-metal stent (BMS) implantation for ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) within medium follow up. However, limited information is available on the long-term safety and efficacy of DES. ⋯ At long-term follow-up, primary percutaneous coronary intervention with DES improved efficacy, without reducing overall safety. However, a trade-off must be made between the reduction of reintervention with DES and an increase in very late stent thrombosis.

Influencing factors for early acute cerebrovascular accidents in patients with stroke history following off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting.
To analyse risk factors for early acute cerebrovascular accidents following off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting (OPCAB) in patients with stroke history, and to propose preventive measures to reduce the incidence of these events. ⋯ This study indicated that patients with severe bilateral carotid stenosis, the left ventricular ejection fraction ≤35%, the postoperative acute myocardial infarction, postoperative atrial fibrillation and postoperative hypotension were more likely to suffer from early acute cerebrovascular accidents when they received OPCAB. Application of Enclose® II proximal anastomotic device may decrease the incidence of early acute cerebrovascular accidents during OPCAB.
