Nipple-sparing mastectomy with implant reconstruction: the Westmead experience.
Nipple-sparing mastectomy (NSM) involves the removal of all breast tissue with preservation of the breast skin envelope and nipple-areola complex (NAC). The objective of this study was to report the outcomes from our initial experience with NSM. ⋯ Our Australian NSM series adds to the published literature supporting the oncological safety of NSM for early-stage breast cancer and risk reduction.

Randomized Controlled TrialTo infiltrate or not? Acute effects of local anaesthetic in breast surgery.
There is limited evidence to support use of local anaesthetic (LA) wound infiltration in breast surgery. This study seeks to examine whether wound infiltration of bupivacaine (0.25%) decreases post-operative pain and analgesic use, without increasing post-operative complications. ⋯ LA infiltration during breast surgery has a marked opioid sparing effect, which has significant patient benefits as well as reducing nursing workload and drug costs.

This paper aimed to describe the training available and the process taken to establish a robotic colorectal surgery programme in a large Australian academic private hospital. Through this we hope to guide other surgeons and hospitals planning to introduce this technology in circumstances where such guidelines do not exist. ⋯ We believe that this thorough and methodical approach to introducing robotics to colorectal surgery has been safe and effective, and should be applicable to other surgeons and hospitals wishing to introduce robotic technology to colorectal surgery.
