Influence of piperine and quercetin on antidiabetic potential of curcumin.
Curcumin is a nutraceutical obtained from the rhizomes of Curcuma longa with a significant medicinal value against numerous disorders. However, the potential cannot be completely exploited due to low in vivo bioavailability. Hence, in order to enhance the bioavailability of curcumin, we combined it with the bioavailability enhancers like piperine and quercetin. ⋯ Treatment with combinatorial extract of curcumin presented a significantly better therapeutic potential when compared with curcumin alone, which reveals that CPQ, with reduced dose of curcumin may serve as a therapeutic agent in the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Comparative StudyA comparison of the effects of reflexology and relaxation on pain in women with multiple sclerosis.
Pain is a common and significant symptom in many individuals with multiple sclerosis (MS). The presence and severity of pain in individuals with MS has also been shown to be associated with higher levels of depression, functional impairment, and fatigue. It is common for MS patients and their caregivers to worry about narcotic addiction in the management of chronic pain. Therefore, this study aimed to determine and compare the effects of reflexology and relaxation on pain in women suffering from MS. ⋯ The results showed that both interventions are effective on relieving pain in women with MS; however, it appears that the effect of reflexology on pain reduction is greater than that of relaxation. Hence, these two methods can be recommended as effective techniques.

Comparative Study Clinical TrialThe effect of acupuncture on pain score after open kidney surgery.
The pain after nephrectomy, just as any other surgery, is one of the problems that surgeons confront. The aim of this study was to evaluate the relieving effect of acupuncture on the pain experienced after nephrectomy. ⋯ Acupuncture can reduce the severity of pain and the demand for opioids in patients who have undergone nephrectomy.

ReviewAn emphasis on molecular mechanisms of anti-inflammatory effects and glucocorticoid resistance.
Glucocorticoids (GC) are universally accepted agents for the treatment of anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive disorders. They are used in the treatment of rheumatic diseases and various inflammatory diseases such as allergy, asthma and sepsis. They bind with GC receptor (GR) and form GC-GR complex with the receptor and exert their actions. ⋯ Various other factors responsible for resistance have been identified, including alterations in both GR-dependent and GR-independent signaling pathways of cytokine action, hypoxia, oxidative stress, allergen exposure and serum-derived factors. The present review enumerates various aspects of inflammation such as use of GC for treatment of inflammation and its mechanism of action. Molecular mechanisms of anti-inflammatory action of GC and GC resistance, alternative anti-inflammatory treatments and new strategy for reversing the GC resistance have also been discussed.

The effect of hydroalcoholic extract of Cannabis Sativa on appetite hormone in rat.
Ghrelin is an orexigenic peptide which is secreted from stomach. Cannabis sativa is known as an orexigenic herb in Iranian traditional medicine. Little evidence is published about its effect on energy intake and its mechanism. In the current study, the possible effect of hydroalcoholic extract of C. sativa on appetite and ghrelin is evaluated. ⋯ This study showed that C. sativa had both positive and dose-related effects on appetite of rats. Future studies are warranted to evaluate the orexigenic effect of this plant in human.
