A feasibility study using interactive commercial off-the-shelf computer gaming in upper limb rehabilitation in patients after stroke.
Commercial off-the-shelf computer gaming devices have been making inroads into the rehabilitation arena, with the objective of making therapeutic exercise fun and contextual. One such device is the Nintendo Wii. Published clinical studies evaluating its acceptance, potential benefits and side-effects in the rehabilitation of patients with post-stroke weakness are few in number. ⋯ Nintendo Wii appears to be a feasible adjunctive device to augment conventional therapy in a cohort of subacute stroke patients with moderate impairments of upper limb strength and function.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study
Effect of neck exercises on cervicogenic headache: a randomized controlled trial.
To compare the efficacy of three 12-month training programmes on headache and upper extremity pain in patients with chronic neck pain. ⋯ All of the training methods decreased headache. However, stretching, which is often recommended for patients, was less effective alone than when combined with muscle endurance and strength training. Care must be taken in recommending the type of training to be undertaken by patients with severe cervicogenic headache.

Effectiveness of exercise on work disability in patients with non-acute non-specific low back pain: Systematic review and meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials.
To determine whether exercise is more effective than usual care to reduce work disability in patients with non-acute non-specific low back pain, and if so, to explore which type of exercise is most effective. ⋯ Exercise interventions have a significant effect on work disability in patients with non-acute non-specific low back pain in the long term. No conclusions can be made regarding exercise types.

As any patient may require rehabilitation and physical therapies, all physicians need to acquire at least a basic knowledge of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine (PRM). In 2005 PRM teaching was implemented in all phases of the curriculum for medical students in Germany. The curriculum includes, among others, the following topics: principles of rehabilitation; the model of the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF); principles and effects of physiotherapy and occupational therapy; indications and contraindications for PRM interventions. ⋯ Global ratings of the module "Propaedeuticum" were good, and of the cross-sectional course "RPMN" very good. The advanced part of the practical training was rated highly by the students. In conclusion, the implementation of teaching of PRM and other rehabilitation topics in undergraduate medical education is a successful concept that fulfils the criteria for education in medical school set out by the American Association of Academic Physiatrists.

Ultrasonographic guided botulinum toxin type A treatment for plantar fasciitis: an outcome-based investigation for treating pain and gait changes.
To evaluate the effectiveness of ultrasonographic guided botulinum toxin type A injections into the plantar fascia to reduce pain and improve gait in patients with unilateral plantar fasciitis. ⋯ Botulinum toxin type A is effective in the treatment of foot pain associated with plantar fasciitis and increases the centre of pressure velocity during loading response without inducing fat pad atrophy.
