'Tu Souffres, Cela Suffit': Louis Pasteur's (1822-1895) inspirational motto for Sydney's St George Hospital.
In the fiscal year of 1960-1961, board members of Sydney's St George Hospital elected to adopt a new motto for the organisation: 'Tu souffres, cela suffit' - French for 'You are suffering, that is enough'. Today these words are all too familiar to staff members and visitors to St George Hospital, but few are aware of their actual historical significance. Accessible histories of the hospital attribute the motto to the distinguished French microbiologist Louis Pasteur (1822-1895), but the original context of Pasteur's remark is not commonly stated. We set out to record the exact source and history of the hospital's motto alongside its logo, referencing in passing, Louis Pasteur's outstanding legacy to Australian medicine in this bicentenary year of his birth.

Review Meta AnalysisOne-Minute Preceptor and SNAPPS for clinical reasoning: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Clinical reasoning teaching strategies could be important models to teach healthcare trainees. This study aims to assess the effectiveness of clinical reasoning teaching strategies (one-minute preceptor (OMP) and SNAPPS) for developing clinical reasoning skills, attitudes and satisfaction of medical/healthcare students and post-graduate trainees as compared to controls. A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomised controlled studies, with no restriction on language or publication date, were carried out by searching the PubMed, SCOPUS, ERIC, Web of Science, Embase and Cochrane Library databases. ⋯ The strategies for teaching clinical reasoning improved the performance of healthcare students and professionals on this skill, promoting deeper discussion of clinical cases and a higher number of differential diagnoses. Further good-quality trials are needed to corroborate these findings. PROSPERO Registration: CRD42020175992.

Case ReportsCost-effectiveness of Screening for Paroxysmal Atrial Fibrillation in Patients undergoing Echocardiography.
Screening for atrial fibrillation is recommended for patients > 65 years on current guidelines. Targeted screening may be more efficient, however the appropriate location for screening programs has not been well defined. Our aim was to compare the cost-effectiveness of unselected electrocardiographic (ECG) screening for atrial fibrillation (AF), and selective screening based on an abnormal echocardiogram. ⋯ In patients with a previous echocardiogram, AF screening of those with baseline clinical and imaging risk parameters is more cost-effective than age-based screening.

Impact of increased alcohol consumption during the COVID-19-related lockdowns on admissions with liver disease, gastrointestinal bleeding and pancreatitis in Melbourne, Victoria.
This audit collates data on alcohol-related gastrointestinal (GI) admissions at Monash Health, Victoria, during the prolonged, coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)-related lockdown July to October 2020 compared with the same periods in 2019 and 2021. We found a 58% increase in admissions in 2020 and a 16% increase in 2021, which also increased disproportionately to overall health service emergency presentations. ⋯ This study suggests an association between the pandemic-related lockdown, alcohol consumption and alcohol-related GI hospitalisation. Our study provides support for resourcing and adapting alcohol and other drug services during and beyond the COVID-19 lockdown.

CoBRA: COde Blue Retrospective Audit in a Metropolitan Hospital.
Inhospital cardiac arrest (IHCA) is an uncommon but challenging problem. ⋯ IHCA is uncommon and is associated with high mortality. IHCA prevalence was unchanged after the introduction of a dedicated MET service. Factors associated with improved survival to hospital discharge were initial rhythm VT or VF, cardiac monitoring and shorter resuscitation times.
