Factors associated with the development of acute general surgical pathology in medical in-patients.
Medical inpatients can develop acute general surgical conditions. However, this is rare. The presence of multiple acute pathologies delays diagnosis and these patients have poorer prognoses. ⋯ The development of acute surgical pathology in medical inpatients is rare but associated with longer inpatient stays and higher mortality. We have identified risk-factors associated with the development of surgical pathology, which can be used to identify patients at risk of surgical pathology.

Case ReportsCough as a clinical manifestation of large vessel vasculitis.
Cough is not a widely recognised symptom of large vessel vasculitides. If not promptly diagnosed and treated, large vessel vasculitis can have serious clinical consequences. We present the case of a 76-year-old man who presented with a subacute history of persistent dry cough, was found to have extensive aortitis on imaging, and experienced rapid resolution of symptoms with immunosuppression.

COVID-19 Pandemic: End of Life Experience in Australian Residential Aged Care Facilities.
The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly impacted those in residential aged care facilities (RACF). This research was undertaken to explore and better understand the effects of the pandemic on the experience of next-of-kin and carers who encountered the death of a loved one who resided within a RACF during the pandemic. ⋯ Findings identify the many COVID-19 pandemic-related challenges faced by participants and their dying loved one in RACF. Access to palliative care and bereavement support is crucial for dying residents and for grieving that has been made more difficult by the pandemic.
