Cardiovascular Toxicity in Cancer Patients Treated with Tyrosine Kinase Inhibitors: A Real-World Single-Center Experience.
Target therapy can cause various cardiovascular complications. The aim of this study was to evaluate the burden of cardiovascular complications related to treatment with anti-BCR-ABL tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) and to determine if there are differences between the latest- and first-generation TKIs. ⋯ Our study confirms that imatinib is a relatively safe drug, while it reveals that the latest-generation TKIs may cause a burden of cardiovascular complications. GLS and PWV allow detection of early signs of cardiac and vascular toxicity in oncohematologic patients treated with TKI, and their use is advisable.

Carcinoid syndrome symptoms significantly reduce quality of life in patients with neuroendocrine tumors. Evidence supporting the use of somatostatin analogues in carcinoid syndrome symptom control dates back 30 years. The introduction of new treatment options for carcinoid syndrome, such as telotristat ethyl in 2017, highlights the need for a review of high-level evidence of new and established systemic treatments. ⋯ By critically evaluating high-level evidence in a rigorous manner, this review highlights the general lack of consensus regarding what defines symptom control in studies of carcinoid syndrome and the need for standardized treatment guidelines for this disease. More prospective trials of treatments for carcinoid syndrome are warranted to assist oncologists with optimizing treatment selection and sequencing in this patient population.

In this phase II study, we investigate clinical outcomes and tolerability of hypofractionated radiotherapy (HRT) combined with temozolomide (TMZ) to treat elderly patients with glioblastoma (GBM). ⋯ The preliminary results of our phase II trial suggest HRT delivered over 2 weeks with concurrent and adjuvant TMZ is well tolerated in elderly patients with GBM without compromising clinical outcomes.

Different Toxicity of Cetuximab and Panitumumab in Metastatic Colorectal Cancer Treatment: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.
Over the last few years only one large randomized phase III study has tried to prospectively assess the safety of cetuximab and panitumumab in a head-to-head comparison. Despite the similar overall toxicity profile, cetuximab and panitumumab retain peculiar safety characteristics that deserve to be deeply investigated. ⋯ In conclusion, this meta-analysis shows that cetuximab- and panitumumab-based chemotherapy have different toxicity profiles in terms of the rate of severe adverse events.

We clarified the predictive and prognostic value of circulating plasma exosomal microRNA-21 (miR-21) in each TNM stage of colorectal cancer (CRC) patients. ⋯ Plasma exosomal miR-21 levels are a useful biomarker for the prediction of recurrence and poor prognosis in CRC patients with TNM stage II, III, or IV.
