Locally advanced oral cavity cancers are treated with a multi-modality approach. Surgery is the most efficient local modality in comparison to chemoradiation in oral cancers. Preoperative chemotherapy has failed its expectations to improve disease-free survival or overall survival in resectable oral cancers. ⋯ The role of induction chemotherapy in unresectable oral cancers is unproven. Metronomic chemotherapy has shown improved progression-free survival and overall survival in oral cancers in comparison to intravenous cisplatin. A phase 3 study for confirmation of this finding has begun.

MicroRNA (miR)-503 is downregulated in several cancers and plays a tumor-suppressive role in carcinogenesis. However, the miR-503 expression pattern, its clinical significance and its molecular mechanism in colorectal cancer (CRC) have not been investigated. ⋯ miR-503 acts as an 'onco-miR' in CRC. High miR-503 expression is associated with early recurrence and poor prognosis in CRC.

Purpose/Objective(s): Stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) is an effective treatment for patients with early-stage non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) who are not surgical candidates or who refuse surgical management. In this study, we report on our clinical outcomes and toxicity in the treatment of early-stage NSCLC with SBRT.

Chemotherapy improves survival in patients with stage IV colorectal cancer (CRC). Although in a clinical trial setting, strict eligibility criteria are used for chemotherapy, little is known about the use of chemotherapy in the general population. The study aims to assess clinicopathological variables that correlate with the use of chemotherapy in patients with stage IV CRC. ⋯ The use of chemotherapy appears to be increasing in stage IV CRC. Patients treated with curative intention or who underwent primary tumor resection were more likely to receive chemotherapy. Despite a known benefit of chemotherapy in elderly patients, a differential use of chemotherapy was noted in this population.
