This retrospective study aimed to address the therapeutic outcome for scirrhous gastric cancer patients by evaluating the effect of neoadjuvant chemotherapy prior to gastrectomy. ⋯ After S-1 plus cisplatin neoadjuvant chemotherapy, a grade 2-3 pathological response may predict favorable outcomes in scirrhous gastric cancer patients receiving curative gastrectomy, but further studies are needed to confirm these results.

Prognostic Factors in Patients Receiving Neoadjuvant 5-Fluorouracil plus Cisplatin for Advanced Esophageal Cancer (JCOG9907).
Neoadjuvant chemotherapy with 5-fluorouracil plus cisplatin and subsequent esophagectomy with two- to three-field lymphadenectomy is a standard treatment for patients with clinical stage II/III squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the esophagus. This study investigates the prognostic factors for patients who received neoadjuvant chemotherapy. ⋯ Preoperative cT stage, Alb, and postoperative pathological findings are independent prognostic factors for patients undergoing neoadjuvant chemotherapy for advanced thoracic esophageal SCC. This analysis may aid in stratification according to individual patient risk.

Phase II Study of Oral Tegafur/Uracil and Leucovorin plus Bevacizumab as a First-Line Therapy for Elderly Patients with Advanced or Metastatic Colorectal Cancer.
Oral tegafur/uracil and leucovorin (UFT/LV) therapy is effective and safe for elderly patients with advanced or metastatic colorectal cancer (CRC). However, there are few studies on the combination of bevacizumab with UFT/LV. This clinical study evaluated the efficacy and safety of UFT/LV plus bevacizumab as a first-line therapy for elderly patients with advanced or metastatic CRC. ⋯ UFT/LV plus bevacizumab is a promising first-line regimen for elderly patients with advanced or metastatic CRC. The combination is well tolerated and efficacious.

The clinical significance of aquaporin-1 (AQP1), aquaporin-3 (AQP3), and aquaporin-5 (AQP5) expression was analyzed in a large number of patients with colon cancer. ⋯ The current study found a significant correlation between AQP1, AQP3, and AQP5 expression and lymph node metastasis in patients with surgically resected colon cancer.

To show additional prognostic information about the mutational profile and new International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer/American Thoracic Society/European Respiratory Society (IASLC/ATS/ERS) classification of adenocarcinoma (ADC) in patients without epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR)-tyrosine kinase inhibitor treatments. ⋯ These results indicate that the mutational profile and new IASLC/ATS/ERS classification provide additional prognostic information about lung ADC.
