Case ReportsMultiple Neuromas Cause Painful "Jumping Stump" in a Transfemoral Amputee: A Case Report.
Painful "jumping stump" is an uncommon but very disturbing complication postamputation. This condition is one of the movement disorder entities resulting from peripheral nerve pathology, often known as "peripherally induced movement disorders." Previously case reports have been written about painful and nonpainful incidence of "jumping stump"; however, only the earliest "jumping stump" article in 1852 suspected that neuromas might influence the involuntary movement. ⋯ He was treated successfully by ultrasound-guided phenol injection into the sciatic neuroma stalks. The pathophysiology of jumping stump and its possible association with neuroma are briefly discussed.

Case ReportsReconstruction of Heel With Propeller Flap in Postfasciotomy and Popliteal Artery Revascularization State.
Free flaps are still the gold standard for large defects of the lower limb, but propeller perforator flaps have become a simpler and faster alternative to free flaps because of some advantages such as reliable vascular pedicle, wide mobilization and rotation, great freedom in design, low donor site morbidity, and easy harvest with no requirement for anastomosis. But when the vessels show insufficient findings in preoperative evaluation using a Doppler probe or the vessel is injured, the surgeon should avoid performing free flap surgery to prevent flap failure and should select a propeller perforator flap as an alternative method on the condition that more than one perforator is intact. In this study, we report reconstruction of soft tissue defects of the heel with a pedicled propeller flap in postfasciotomy and popliteal artery revascularization state by making an incision on the central portion above the Achilles tendon, which can be covered by the posterior tibial artery perforator or the peroneal artery perforator based flaps. In conclusion, we showed that although the popliteal artery was injured, the soft tissue defect can be reconstructed using a perforator propeller flap if intact distal flow in the anastomosis site was confirmed.

Higher Levels of Serum Triglycerides were Associated with Postoperative Deep Vein Thrombosis After Total Hip Arthroplasty in Patients with Nontraumatic Osteonecrosis of the Femoral Head.
This retrospective study aimed to evaluate the association of serum lipids and deep vein thrombosis (DVT) risk following total hip arthroplasty (THA) in patients with nontraumatic osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH). A total of 224 nontraumatic ONFH patients were enrolled. ⋯ In females, patients who were venogram positive for DVT had a higher serum TG level than those who were venogram negative for DVT (P = .029) and a higher TG level was associated with an increased DVT risk (P = .042). Serum TG levels considerably affect DVT risk after THA in female nontraumatic ONFH patients.
