Head and neck cancers are heterogenous cancers with rising incidence of treatable/curative cancers. They are treated comprehensively by multidisciplinary teams. Survivors of head and neck cancers often deal with the sequalae of therapy and with increasing survival rates, it is anticipated that the primary care physicians are going to encounter more patients in their clinics in the coming years. The clinicians should be aware of physiologic and functional changes in vital organs involving daily activities such as eating, drinking, speech and communication, and also be prepared to be a part of the cancer survivorship plans.

While pharyngitis is a common primary care complaint, evidence reveals that this diagnosis is an area where antibiotic therapy is frequently misused. Appropriate diagnosis and management of pharyngitis is crucial to ensure antimicrobial stewardship and improve patient safety and outcomes. Pharyngitis etiologies include both infectious and noninfectious sources such as bacteria, viruses, fungal organisms, trauma, irritants, laryngopharyngeal reflux, and medications. Clinicians need to obtain a thorough history and careful physical examination, along with appropriate diagnostic testing when indicated, to ensure treatment plans are targeted toward the most likely pharyngitis etiology.

To compare access, quality, and clinical outcomes between Latino and non-Latino White Californians with colon cancer. ⋯ Latino patients with colon cancer experienced delays, segregation, and lower receipt of recommended care. Hospital-level colectomy volume appears to be strongly associated with access, quality, and survival-especially for patients who identify as Latino-suggesting that directing at-risk patients with cancer to high-volume hospitals may improve health equity.

Tobacco use is known to affect incidence and postoperative outcome for several neurosurgical disorders, but its relationship to trigeminal neuralgia (TN) is not known. We sought to identify unique population characteristics that correlate with tobacco use in a cohort of patients with TN who underwent microvascular decompression (MVD), including effect on long-term postoperative outcome. ⋯ In patients undergoing MVD for TN, smoking is associated with younger age of TN onset, more widespread facial pain, and worse long-term postoperative outcome after MVD. These features suggest that TN in smokers may represent a more severe disease form compared with TN in nonsmokers with different responses to treatment.

Analysis of Transgender and Gender-Diverse Topics Within Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Curricular Content in Pediatric Anesthesiology Fellowship Programs in the United States and Canada-A Prospective Survey.
Transgender and gender-diverse individuals experience higher burdens of health disparities compared to their cisgender counterparts. Contributing factors include decreased access and denial of care, experiences and fear of medical violence, and increasing legislative barriers. These patients often report having to educate healthcare professionals due to lack of expertise of transgender and gender-diverse issues within the medical community, with training deficits observed at all levels of medical training. ⋯ Lack of physician education on the care of transgender and gender-diverse patients is one of several factors contributing to the health disparities seen in this population; training deficits in the care of transgender and gender-diverse patients have been observed in all levels of medical training. Our data show a critical deficiency of transgender and gender-diverse topics within diversity, equity, and inclusion curricular content in pediatric anesthesiology fellowships in the United States and Canada and identify potential barriers to the inclusion of such content.
