Reducing Opioid Use for Chronic Pain With a Group-Based Intervention: A Randomized Clinical Trial.
Opioid use for chronic nonmalignant pain can be harmful. ⋯ In people with chronic pain due to nonmalignant causes, compared with usual care, a group-based educational intervention that included group and individual support and skill-based learning significantly reduced patient-reported use of opioids, but had no effect on perceived pain interference with daily life activities.

Multicenter Study Observational StudySystemic opioids for dyspnea in cancer patients: A real-world observational study.
Although Systemic opioids are recommended as a pharmacological treatment for cancer-related dyspnea, their effectiveness and safety needs to be investigated in a real-world context OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the effectiveness and safety of systemic regular opioids for dyspnea in cancer patients, in the real-world palliative care practice. ⋯ Regular systemic opioids were effective for dyspnea in real-world cancer patients.

Return Rates for Opioid versus Nonopioid Management of Patients with Abdominal Pain in the Emergency Department.
Research suggests that opioid treatment for abdominal pain, which comprises a large proportion of patients presenting to the emergency department (ED), may contribute to long-term opioid use without significant benefits with regard to symptom management. ⋯ Patients given opioids for abdominal pain in the ED had 57% increased odds of a return ED visit within 30 days compared with those given only acetaminophen or NSAIDs. This warrants further research on the use of nonopioid analgesics in the ED, especially in patients with anticipated discharge.

Comparative evaluation of rapidity of action of benzydamine hydrochloride 0.3% oromucosal spray and benzydamine hydrochloride 3 mg lozenges in patients with acute sore throat: A phase IV randomized trial.
Acute sore throat (ST) can occur as part of a common cold of viral origin or caused by pharyngeal bacterial pathogens. The majority of patients with acute ST complain of pain on swallowing and dry scratchiness which can have a negative impact on the quality of life (QoL). This study aimed to evaluate the time to pain relief in patients with acute ST, following a single administration of benzydamine hydrochloride (HCl) 0.3% oromucosal spray or benzydamine HCl 3 mg lozenges. ⋯ Anesthetic and analgesic properties of benzydamine spray and lozenges effectively addressed the patient priority of a rapid relief of symptoms of upper respiratory tract infections (URTI).

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyPain treatment after total hip arthroplasty: Detailed statistical analysis plan for the RECIPE randomised clinical trial.
The RECIPE trial systematically investigates the effects of different combinations of paracetamol, ibuprofen and dexamethasone for pain treatment after total hip arthroplasty. To preserve transparency, minimise risk of bias and to prevent data-driven analysis, we present this detailed statistical analysis plan. ⋯ The RECIPE trial will provide important information on benefit and harm of combinations of the most frequently used non-opioid analgesics for pain after primary hip arthroplasty.
