Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is characterized by an acute, diffuse, inflammatory lung injury, leading to increased alveolar capillary permeability, increased lung weight, and loss of aerated lung tissue (Fan, Brodie, & Slutsky, 2018). Primary treatment for ARDS is artificial mechanical ventilation (AMV) (Wu, Huang, Wu, Wang, & Lin, 2016). Given recent advances in technology, the use of veno-venous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VV-ECMO) to treat severe ARDS is growing rapidly (Combes et al., 2014). ⋯ Although the results related to length of time on AMV did not produce statistical significance, the decreased duration of AMV in the participants who were cannulated within 48 hours (21 days vs. 27 days) may support several benefits associated with this participant population including increased knowledge of healthcare providers, decreased lung injury, earlier discharge which decreases hospital and patient cost, ability for patients to communicate sooner, decreased risk of pulmonary infection, decreased length of stay, decreased cost, and improved patient and family satisfaction.

Case ReportsFatal Invasive Aspergillosis and Coronavirus Disease in an Immunocompetent Patient.
Invasive pulmonary aspergillosis is a complication in critically ill patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome, especially those with severe influenza pneumonia. We report a fatal case of invasive pulmonary aspergillosis in an immunocompetent patient in France who had severe coronavirus disease-associated pneumonia.

In this study we describe the epidemiological data, comorbidities, clinical symptoms, severity of illness and early outcome of patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) from a tertiary care teaching hospital in New Delhi, India. ⋯ Nearly half of the patients presented with severe and critical disease and required high-flow nasal oxygen or invasive mechanical ventilation at admission. Severity of the presenting respiratory illness, haematological parameters and lactate rather than age or presence of comorbidity predicted early death within 24 h.

High-flow nasal cannula oxygen therapy in acute hypoxemic respiratory failure in 22 dogs requiring oxygen support escalation.
To determine the effect of high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC) oxygen therapy on cardiorespiratory variables and outcome in dogs with acute hypoxemic respiratory failure. ⋯ HFNC use improved oxygenation and work of breathing relative to traditional oxygen therapies, without impairing ventilation. HFNC use appears to be a beneficial oxygen support modality to bridge the gap between standard oxygen supplementation and mechanical ventilation.

Case ReportsReport of Two COVID-19 ARDS (CARDS) Cases Who Survived without Intubation and Mechanical Ventilation.
The most severe clinical feature of COVID-19 is Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) which requires intubation and mechanical ventilation and it occurs in approximately 2.3% of cases. About 94% of of these cases end in death. This case series report two confirmed COVID-19 patients who had met criteria of intubation and mechanical ventilation, but not performed to them. ⋯ These different phenotypic also distinguish subsequent pathophysiology and clinical management. These phenotype can be differentiate by chest CT scan. This case series emphasizes the importance of understanding this phenotype so that clinicians can provide more appropriate treatment management and also availability of CT scans in health facilities that manage COVID -19.
