Health guidelines are a key knowledge translation tool produced and used by numerous stakeholders worldwide. Effective participation in guideline development groups or development groups is crucial for guideline success, yet little guidance exists for members of these groups. In this study, we present the Guideline Participant Tool (GPT) to support effective participation in guideline groups, in particular those using the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE) approach. ⋯ The GPT contains helpful guidance for all guideline participants, particularly those without previous guideline experience. Future research should further explore the need for additional tools to support guideline participants and identify and develop strategies for improving guideline members' participation in guideline groups. This work will be incorporated into INGUIDE.org guideline training and credentialing efforts by the Guidelines International Network and McMaster University.

Reliability, validity, and responsiveness of multidimensional pain assessment tools used in postoperative adult patients: a systematic review of measurement properties.
The objective of this systematic review was to synthesize the best available evidence relating to the measurement properties of the multidimensional pain assessment tools used to assess postoperative pain in adults. ⋯ This review provides much needed information about the current tools used in many clinical, educational, and research settings. Of the five tools included in this review, the Brief Pain Inventory demonstrated strong evidence of psychometric validity and is recommended for use in assessing postoperative pain. Further psychometric validation of multidimensional postoperative pain assessment tools with emphasis on responsiveness and measurement error is required in order to accurately assess the minimal clinically important difference in postoperative pain outcomes.

It is empirically proven that mortality and complication rates can be reduced by introducing checklists. ⋯ It was proven that the introduction of these optimised surgical safety checklists in connection with compliance promoting measures resulted in a significantly improved quality of completion. However, in view of the literature on this topic, it can also be stated that the compliance-promoting measures made an important contribution to this result.
