Readiness of military health care providers is essential to maintain a prepared fighting force and remains a central issue for today's military. Maintaining skills regarding operative management of trauma is becoming more difficult if not located at an urban trauma center. Live tissue training may be used to practice skills in a facility that does not have exposure to high acuity trauma. The goal of our live tissue skills course is to train health care providers and ancillary staff in the management of various injury complexes and improve confidence and familiarity with management using a porcine model. ⋯ Perceived as highly beneficial, live tissue training increased comfort with operative trauma management by surgical residents, attendings, and technicians supporting continued utilization. Further evaluation of live tissue courses would be advantageous in assessing surgical skill improvement, including comparison with simulation training.

Liberal or Restrictive Transfusion Strategy in Patients with Traumatic Brain Injury.
The effect of a liberal transfusion strategy as compared with a restrictive strategy on outcomes in critically ill patients with traumatic brain injury is unclear. ⋯ In critically ill patients with traumatic brain injury and anemia, a liberal transfusion strategy did not reduce the risk of an unfavorable neurologic outcome at 6 months. Multicenter StudyHyperoxaemia in acute trauma is common and associated with a longer hospital stay: a multicentre retrospective cohort study.
Trauma poses a significant global health challenge. Despite advancements in the management of severely injured patients, (poly)trauma continues to be a primary contributor to morbidity and mortality worldwide. In the context of trauma resuscitation, supplemental oxygen is commonly administered generously as suggested by guidelines. Yet, it remains uncertain whether the trauma population might derive advantages from a more conservative approach to supplemental oxygen. ⋯ Hyperoxaemia was not associated with an increased 28-day mortality when compared to normoxaemia. However, both moderate and severe hyperoxaemia is frequently observed in trauma patients, and the presence of severe hyperoxaemia showed a tendency with extended hospital stay compared to normoxaemia patients. Robust randomized controlled trials are imperative to thoroughly evaluate the potential correlation between hyperoxaemia and outcomes in trauma patients . Implementing prehospital blood products for treating hemorrhagic shock has been utilized globally in military and civilian settings. This review aims to compare various guidelines for using blood products, including the types of blood products, injuries, biomarkers (hemodynamic measurement) to indicate use, associated treatments and risks, and the logistical concerns of storage and wastage in the prehospital setting. Furthermore, it explores whether prehospital blood transfusions are beneficial and a safe treatment option. ⋯ Prehospital blood was used in medical, trauma, and maternity-related hemorrhage. Many types of blood products are in use, ranging from component therapy to whole blood, with each protocol having different indications of use and treatment guidelines aimed at improving hemodynamic stability.
