The COVID-19 pandemic has had unprecedented socioeconomic and health impacts in the U.S. This study examined racial/ethnic and school poverty status differences in the relationship between parent job loss, experiences with hunger, and indicators of mental health problems among public high-school students nationwide during the COVID-19 pandemic. ⋯ Students who experience parent job loss and hunger are likely to also experience poor mental health and may be at higher risk for suicide.

Hospital medicine (HM) has a well-described gender disparity related to academic work and promotion. During the COVID-19 pandemic, female authorship across medicine fell further behind historical averages. ⋯ Across COVID-19-related manuscripts, disparities by gender were driven by the high-impact general medical journals. HM-specific journals had more equitable inclusion of women authors, demonstrating the potential impact of proactive editorial policies on diversity.

Monkeypox, a neglected disease previously confined to Africa, is causing a worldwide outbreak affecting predominantly males who have sex with males, especially those who are infected with HIV. The clinical presentation during the current outbreak differs from endemic cases. Treatment with tecovirimat and other antivirals is available. Immunization may be used as preexposure and postexposure prophylaxis.

ReviewReshaping care in the aftermath of the pandemic. Implications for cardiology health systems.
In the last two years, the COVID-19 pandemic has undeniably changed everyday life and significantly reshaped the healthcare systems. Besides the direct effect on daily care leading to significant excess mortality, several collateral damages have been observed during the pandemic. The impact of the pandemic led to staff shortages, disrupted education, worse healthcare professional well-being, and a lack of proper clinical training and research. In this review we highlight the results of these important changes and how can the healthcare systems can adapt to prevent unprecedented events in case of future catastrophes.
