Abscess coexisting within a brain tumor is rare. Case reports in the literature primarily consist of sellar pathology and parenchymal lesions, including meningioma, glioma, and metastases. We report a case of glioblastoma with an intratumoral abscess in a middle-aged patient with no prior invasive procedure or systemic focus of infection. ⋯ It is important for neurosurgeons to be aware of this rare entity. The treatment protocol remains controversial and is primarily guided by expert opinion. It is important to aggressively treat the patient with antibiotics followed by adjuvant therapy for malignancy. The timing and administration of adjuvant therapy are unclear. We suggest a delay of chemotherapy until at least 4 weeks of therapy with sensitive antibiotics.

Risk factors of overactive bladder syndrome and its relation to sexual function in menopausal women.
Overactive bladder syndrome is a common and annoying complication worldwide that could negatively affect the quality of life of afflicted individuals. We aimed to determine the prevalence and risk factors of overactive bladder syndrome and its relation to sexual function in healthy menopausal women. ⋯ The prevalence of overactive bladder was quite high in this study. Since sexual dysfunction is not an easy topic to talk about and can affect women's quality of life, physicians should consider talking about these issues besides urinary issues to all middle-aged women.

Opioid analgesics are recognized as a legitimate medical therapy for selected patients with severe chronic pain that does not respond to other therapies. However, opioids are associated with risks for patients and society that include misuse, abuse, diversion, addiction, and overdose deaths. Therapeutic success depends on proper candidate selection, assessment before administering opioid therapy, and close monitoring throughout the course of treatment. ⋯ Suicides are probably undercounted or frequently misclassified in reports of opioid-related poisoning deaths. Greater understanding and better assessment are needed of the risk associated with suicide risk in patients with pain. Clinical tools and an evolving evidence base are available to assist clinicians with identifying patients whose risk factors put them at risk for adverse outcomes with opioids.

It has been hypothesized that depression and obesity are bi-directionally associated, and when overweight people appear to show a lower risk of depression, this supports the "Jolly Fat" hypothesis. The aim of this study was to examine the "Jolly Fat" hypothesis in middle-aged women in Korea, by different perceived stress levels. ⋯ These findings indicate that the relationship between obesity and depressive symptoms in the Korean middle-aged women supports the "Jolly Fat" hypothesis. Further, our results underscore the role of stress as an important potential mediator exerting effects on the association between obesity and depressive symptoms.

[Outcome of vaginal birth after cesarean section in women with advanced maternal age].
Objective: To explore the perinatal outcome of vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC) in women with advanced age. Methods: Totally 2 587 women delivered after one or two prior cesarean sections (gestational age≥28 weeks) in the First Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical University from July 2013 to February 2017. 909 trial of labor after cesarean(TOLAC) cases of singleton pregnancy with one prior cesarean section were studied retrospectively. According to the age, of the 909 TOLAC cases, 237 were the advanced age group, and 672 cases were the low age group. ⋯ And there were no significant differences in the rate of postpartum hemorrhage, the rate of postpartum hemorrhage≥1 500 ml, the rate of postpartum transfusion, puerperal morbidity, neonatal birth weight, neonatal 5 min Apgar score<7 score, umbilical artery blood pH<7.0, neonatal tracheal intubation and respiratory distress syndrome (all P>0.05). In all TOLAC cases, the rate of uterine rupture was 0.11%(1/909) and there was no maternal and neonatal death. Conclusion: VBAC is a safe and feasible way of delivery for singleton pregnancy after one prior cesarean section in women with advanced age.
