Tectal plate gliomas (TPGs) are midbrain tumors that grow slowly and have a benign clinical course. Most TPGs are low-grade astrocytomas, but they can encompass various histological tumor types. Gamma Knife radiosurgery (GKRS) is being explored as a potentially safe and effective treatment option for TPGs, although research in this area is limited. This study aims to evaluate GKRS's efficacy and safety in patients with TPG and provide a comprehensive review of existing literature on the topic. ⋯ There is limited research available on the management of TPGs, and this study presents the largest patient cohort treated with GKRS, along with a substantial follow-up duration. Despite its limitations, this study demonstrates the efficacy and low-risk profile of GKRS for TPGs.

Randomized Controlled TrialDexmedetomidine Prevents Chronic Incisional Pain After Brain Tumor Resection: A Secondary Analysis of the Randomized Control Trial.
Dexmedetomidine was reported to reduce postoperative acute pain after neurosurgery. However, the efficacy of dexmedetomidine for preventing chronic incisional pain is uncertain. ⋯ Prophylactic intraoperative dexmedetomidine infusion reduces the incidence of chronic incisional pain as well as acute pain score after elective brain tumor resections.

To search for studies that address the efficacy of nonpharmacologic methods for pain relief in adults undergoing cardiac surgeries. ⋯ Some interventions, when combined with pharmacologic therapy, were effective in relieving postoperative pain after cardiac surgeries, according to the studies analyzed. However, most studies had significant methodological flaws, and further studies with high methodological quality are needed.

Practical Methods of Assessing Coronal Alignment and Outcomes in Adult Spinal Deformity Surgery: A Comparative Analysis.
Asymptomatic cohort: prospective, cross-sectional, multicenter. Symptomatic: retrospective, multisurgeon, single-center. ⋯ Preoperative OD-L5, ORB-L5, and C7-L5 lateral to pedicles were associated with worse preoperative ODI and higher intraoperative complexity. Postoperative OD-L5-L was associated with higher rates of proximal junctional kyphosis and pseudarthrosis. Postoperative CM, approximated by the cranial plumb line lateral to the L5 pedicles, was associated with sagittal plane complications.

ReviewIntraoperative lung protection: strategies and their impact on outcomes.
The present review summarizes the current knowledge and the barriers encountered when implementing tailoring lung-protective ventilation strategies to individual patients based on advanced monitoring systems. ⋯ Refining protective lung ventilation is crucial to provide patients with the best possible care during surgery, reduce the incidence of PPCs, and improve their overall surgical journey.
