The COVID-19 pandemic had a dramatic effect on various health systems in terms of admissions and outcomes, including pediatric surgery activity. The aim of this paper was to analyze the outcome of SARS-CoV-2-positive patients admitted to our department during the regional COVID-19 pandemic in North-Eastern Romania. We also evaluated the changes generated in our daily practice by the COVID-19 pandemic and the dynamic response to this major challenge. ⋯ The SARS-CoV-2 infection had no significant influence on the outcome of pediatric surgical cases included in the study. We noticed a significant (31.54%) decrease in the number of admissions compared to the previous 2-year interval before the COVID-19 pandemic. Fast and adequate adjustment of the daily activity imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic was feasible and may be used in the future should similar epidemiological emergencies occur.

ChatGPT is a novel natural language processing artificial intelligence (AI) module where users enter any question or command and receive a single text response within seconds. As AI becomes more accessible, patients may begin to use it as a resource for medical information and advice. This is the first study to assess the neurosurgical information that is provided by ChatGPT. ⋯ ChatGPT is an adaptive resource for neurosurgical information but has shortcomings that limit the quality of its responses, including poor readability, lack of references, and failure to fully describe treatment options. Hence, patients and providers should remain wary of the provided content. As ChatGPT or other AI search algorithms continue to improve, they may become a reliable alternative for medical information.

Lumbar disc herniation (LDH) is a common cause of pain in the lumbar spine and legs. While acupuncture has become the primary conservative treatment for LDH, some patients experience treatment failure and require surgery, causing substantial concern for clinicians. We developed an effective personalized clinical prediction model to identify the independent risk factors associated with acupuncture failure in patients with LDH. ⋯ Therefore, the prediction model had a good net benefit. The nomogram established in this study, incorporating 7 risk factors, demonstrated a good predictive ability. It could predict acupuncture failure in LDH patients and the risk of surgery within 6 months, enabling physicians to conduct individualized treatment measures.
