Effect of neuromuscular block on surgical conditions during laparoscopic surgery in neonates and small infants: A randomised controlled trial.
Neuromuscular block (NMB) is routinely used in paediatric and adult anaesthesia to facilitate endotracheal intubation and optimise surgical conditions. However, there are limited data regarding NMB and optimising the conditions for laparoscopic surgery in neonates and small infants. ⋯ The depth of NMB was not associated with superior surgical conditions during laparoscopic surgery, but it was associated with a reduction in adverse events during induction and maintenance of anaesthesia in neonates and small infants.

Perianal rhabdomyosarcoma in an adult: A case report and review of the literature.
Perianal/perineal rhabdomyosarcomas (PRMS) is rare, and the outcome is poor. A 29-year-old female presented with perineal rhabdomyosarcomas revealed metastases to inguinal lymph nodes on the bilateral side. Disease progression was discovered when the patient got adjuvant epirubicin, ifosfamide, and bevacizumab for 2 cycles. ⋯ The surgical resection was performed. The patient received neoadjuvant chemotherapy before surgery and was weak after surgery, so he did not receive chemoradiotherapy. The patient succumbed after 11 months postoperatively due to widespread intraabdominal metastasis.

Silent Corticotroph Staining Pituitary Neuroendocrine Tumors: Prognostic Significance in Radiosurgery.
There is conflicting evidence on the significance of adrenocorticotrophic hormone (ACTH) staining in the prognosis of nonfunctioning pituitary neuroendocrine tumors (NFpitNETs). The objective of this study was to define the effect of ACTH immunostaining on clinical and radiographic outcomes of stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) for NFpitNETs. ⋯ In contemporary radiosurgical practice with a single fraction dose of 8-25 Gy (median 15 Gy), ACTH immunostaining in NFpitNETs did not appear to confer a significantly reduced rate of local tumor control after SRS.

Gastric conduit is most widely used method for esophageal reconstruction. Despite its popularity, certain complications, such as anastomotic leakage and strictures, remain to be resolved. In the present study, we reviewed the outcomes of narrow gastric conduit compared to wide gastric conduit reconstruction. ⋯ The narrow gastric conduit is not inferior to the wide gastric conduit and can be considered an alternative option for gastric conduit preparation.

While the principles of damage control surgery - rapid hemorrhage and contamination control with correction of physiologic derangements followed by delayed definitive reconstruction - have remained consistent, forms of damage control intervention have evolved and proliferated dramatically. This review aims to provide a historic perspective of the early trends of damage control surgery as well as an updated understanding of its current state and future trends. ⋯ Optimal outcome in the care of the most severely injured patients requires judicious use of damage control surgery supplemented by advancements in resuscitation and surgical adjuncts.
