The purpose of this study was to evaluate the association between oral health and asthma/allergic rhinitis/atopic dermatitis in a large representative Korean adolescent population. A total of 136,027 participants (aged 12-18 years old) were selected from the Korea Youth Risk Behavior Web-based Survey 2014 to 2015. The subjects' history of asthma, allergic rhinitis, and atopic dermatitis was determined by inquiring whether they had been diagnosed by a medical doctor within the previous 12 months or throughout life. ⋯ The aORs for asthma/allergic rhinitis/atopic dermatitis were 1.48 (95% CI = 1.34-1.63, P < .001), 1.42 (95% CI = 1.36-1.47, P < .001), and 1.35 (95% CI = 1.28-1.43, P < .001), respectively, in the poor oral health group compared to the good oral health group. Poor oral health was significantly correlated with the prevalence of asthma/allergic rhinitis/atopic dermatitis within the past 12 months and throughout life in Korean adolescents. Based on our comparative data, oral health-related education may be considered to adolescents with allergic disease for good oral health.

Mutations in the hepatocyte nuclear factor-1-beta (HNF1B) gene result in a very variable presentation, including maturity onset diabetes of the young (MODY), renal cysts, renal dysplasia, and autosomal dominant tubulointerstitial kidney disease (ADTKD), which is characterized by tubular damage, renal fibrosis, and progressive renal dysfunction. ⋯ We should take into account the diagnoses of ADTKD and MODY5 if patients present with early onset diabetes and multiple renal cysts or evidence of renal tubulointerstitial dysplasia, especially those with negative proteinuria results. Genetic testing helps detect the HNF1B gene mutations.

Severe bone defect could often occur after removing the fractured fixation plates of comminuted fracture in the distal humerus. The reoperation of internal fixation or conventional total elbow arthroplasty could hardly restore the anatomy structure and function of the elbow. However, a novel exploration of 3-dimensional (3D) printed personalized elbow prosthesis was presented in this work. This is a rare and successful treatment for the severe bone defect after removing the fractured fixation plates of comminuted distal humerus fracture. ⋯ The 3D printed personalized prosthesis could successfully reconstruct the anatomical structures and function of the elbow joint with a severe bone defect. The 3D printed personalized total elbow arthroplasty might provide a feasible method for treating the complex elbow joint diseases in the elderly.

The diameter of femoral vessels was angiographically explored in pediatric patients with congenital heart disease (CHD) and compared with anthropometric and demographic indexes. A total of 153 pediatric patients younger than 3 years old were recruited. The sex, age, weight, and height of patients were recorded daily, and the body surface area (BSA) was calculated with the Mosteller formula. ⋯ The FA-Dm and FV-Dm were closely associated with the height of pediatric patients. Furthermore, the FA-Dm/FV-Dm ratio was stable in these patients. Such estimations could help clinicians select the appropriate diameter of cannulation needles and catheters for interventional therapy pediatric patients with CHD.

Genetic mapping of northern corn leaf blight-resistant quantitative trait loci in maize.
Northern corn leaf blight (NCLB), a corn disease infected by Exserohilum turcicum, can cause loss of harvest and economy. Identification or evaluation of NCLB-resistant quantitative trait loci (QTL) and genes could improve maize breeds. This study aimed to identify novel QTLs for NCLB-resistance. ⋯ In BB, QTL of the NCLB resistance was on chromosome 1 and 3 (LOD scores between 2.74 and 5.44); in BC, QTL of NCLB resistance was on chromosome 1, 2, 4, 8, and 9 (LOD scores between 2.52 and 8.53). A number of genes or genetic information related to NCLB resistance in both BB and BC were identified with the maximum number of genes/NCLB resistance-related QTL on chromosome 3 for BB and on chromosome 1 for BC. This study successfully mapped and identified NCLB-resistant QTL and genes for these 2 different maize strains, which provides insightful information for future study of NCLB-resistance and selection of NCLB-resistant maize variants.
