Surgical lung biopsy is regarded as the golden standard for the diagnosis of idiopathic interstitial pneumonias (IIPs). Here, we attempted to show the diagnostic accuracy of multidisciplinary classifications based on transbronchial pathology including transbronchial lung cryobiopsy (TBLC) , bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) and endobronchial ultrasound-guided transbronchial needle aspiration biopsy (EBUS-TBNA). Patients with suspected interstitial lung diseases admitted from June 1, 2016 to December 31, 2018 were involved. ⋯ The diagnoses of 4 patients with progressed clinical feature were revised. As a result, 94.3% initial MDD classifications based on transbronchial pathology were consistent with the final MDD, and the difference of diagnostic yield wasn't significant between initial and final MDD (Z = -1.414, P = .157). Classifications of IIPs based on transbronchial pathology were useful and quite agreed with final MDD.

Hypertension is one of the most important causes of cardiovascular disease (CVD) incidence and mortality. The aim of the study was to assess the prevalence of metabolic syndrome and its individual components i.e., diabetes, obesity, elevated triglycerides (TG), low HDL (high-density lipoprotein) cholesterol, as well as selected manifestations of CVD i.e., atrial fibrillation (AF), peripheral artery disease (PAD), coronary artery disease (CAD), myocardial infarction (MI), and stroke in persons with and without hypertension in the Polish population. The analysis included participants of Polish multicentre WOBASZ II Study i.e., 6163 persons aged 19 and above. ⋯ Components of the metabolic syndrome and selected manifestations of CVD were more prevalent in participants with hypertension compared to normotensives. The Mantel-Haenszel odds ratios (95% confidence intervals) were as follows: obesity counted as BMI > 30 kg/m OR = 2.58 (2.26-2.96), raised triglycerides OR = 2.34 (2.07-2.64), reduced HDL-C OR = 1.81 (1.59-2.06), metabolic syndrome OR = 5.35 (4.71-6.09), diabetes OR = 2.54 (1.98-3.26), AF OR = 1.47 (1.09-2.00), PAD OR = 1.51 (1.14-1.99), CAD OR = 1.94 (1.52-2.49), MI OR = 1.89 (1.32-2.70), hospitalization due to HF OR = 2.02 (1.43-2.87), hospitalization due to exacerbation of CAD OR = 2.13 (1.58-2.86), hospitalization due to revascularization OR = 2.38 (1.49-3.80), hospitalization due to stroke OR = 1.72 (1.1-2.68). Compared to normotensive participants, persons with hypertension had higher prevalence of diabetes, obesity, MS, PAD, CAD, stroke, MI and AF, and more frequent need for hospitalization due to HF, exacerbation of CAD and for coronary revascularization.

Gwakhyangjeonggi-san (GJS) is an herbal formula with anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic properties that is broadly used to treat a wide range of diseases including gastrointestinal disorders and allergic diseases. There have been several clinical studies conducted on its effects on atopic dermatitis (AD). So far, no randomized controlled trials have been conducted. Here, we describe the protocol for a randomized controlled study designed to investigate the efficacy and safety of GJS for treating patients with AD that have gastrointestinal symptoms. ⋯ The study protocol was approved by the Institutional Review Board of Kyung Hee University Korean Medicine Hospital at Gangdong (KHNMCOH2019-06-002-001).

Association of bone mineral density with peripheral blood cell counts and hemoglobin in Chinese postmenopausal women: A retrospective study.
Osteoporosis (OP) is a metabolic bone disease that can cause structural changes in bone marrow cavity. Bone marrow is the hematopoietic organ of adults. Accumulating evidence has shown a close connection between bone marrow hematopoietic function and bone formation. ⋯ Spearman linear trend analysis and partial correlation analysis demonstrated that BMD was negatively correlated with WBC, RBC, PLT, and HGB in postmenopausal women. Due to the differences between different countries and races, and there are few studies on the association of BMD with peripheral blood cell counts and HGB in Chinese Postmenopausal Women. Therefore, more large sample studies are needed.

Associations between the psoas major muscle index and the presence and severity of coronary artery disease.
The associations between the presence and severity of coronary artery disease (CAD) and measurements of the psoas major muscle (PMM) as assessed by multidetector row coronary computed tomography angiography (MDCT) are not known. We enrolled 793 patients who were clinically suspected to have CAD or had at least one cardiac risk factor and had undergone MDCT. The number of significantly stenosed coronary vessels (VD) and measurements of the PMM index (PMMI) were determined using MDCT. ⋯ When male patients were divided into 2 groups according to median value of age, that is, relatively younger (53.4 ± 9.2 years) and older (72.6 ± 5.7 years) groups, the presence of CAD was independently associated with PMMI in the younger group by a multiple logistic regression analysis. The cut-off level of PMMI that gave the greatest sensitivity and specificity for the diagnosis of CAD in younger males was 8.3 cm/m (sensitivity 0.441, specificity 0.752). In conclusion, PMMI may be an imaging marker for evaluating the presence and/or severity of CAD in males, and particularly in the non-elderly.
