Pulmonary sclerosing pneumocytoma in an 18-year-old male patient: A case report and literature review.
Pulmonary sclerosing pneumocytoma (PSP) is a rare benign tumor of the lung, mostly presented in Asian middle-aged women. Initially, it was considered as a vascular origin tumor, but then research evidence showed that it was derived from natural epithelial tissue. On imaging, this tumor may be found as a solitary well-circumscribed lung parenchymal lesion, and is often located in juxtapleural or juxtafissural positions. On histopathology, it consists of cuboidal surface cells and stromal round cells, both of which are positive for thyroid transcription factor-1. Here we report a case of a young PSP male patient and review the relevant literature in order to improve our understanding of this disease. ⋯ PSP in a young man is really uncommon, and is confused with malignant tumors. A histopathological examination is considered as the diagnostic gold standard for this uncommon tumor. Surgery is the main treatment.

Pulmonary amyloidosis is a rare respiratory disease characterized by amyloid deposition in the lungs. The clinical manifestations of pulmonary amyloidosis are variable and without specific symptoms. ⋯ This case clearly shows that it is difficult to distinguish tracheobronchial amyloidosis from other diseases with manifestations of cough, dyspnea and chest tightness because of their similar symptoms and imaging findings. Thus, the role of transbronchoscopic lung biopsy and histological examination in the diagnosis of tracheobronchial amyloidosis is very important.

Critically ill patients with COVID-19 with ECMO and artificial liver plasma exchange: A retrospective study.
COVID-19 is an emerging infectious disease capable of causing severe pneumonia. We aimed to characterize a group of critically ill patients in a single-center study. This was a retrospective case series of 23 patients with confirmed COVID-19-related critical illness in the intensive care unit (ICU) of a hospital in Hangzhou Zhejiang Province between January 22 and March 20, 2020. ⋯ Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation reduced the requirements for ventilator support. Artificial liver plasma exchange significantly reduced inflammatory cytokine levels. These supportive therapies helped to extend the patients' survival times and increase the chance of follow-up treatments.

Lung Cancer is one of the most common cancers with high degree of malignancy, is a devastating disease with a poor prognosis worldwide. prognostic prediction for patients with non small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is still challenge. ⋯ We have detected both tumor mutations and methylated DNA in plasma of patients with NSCLC. Combined genetic and methylated DNA decreasing after treatment was an independent risk factor for prognosis of patients with NSCLC. Meanwhile, it had favorable predict value and had potential to be defined as a novel biomarker for patients with NSCLC.

Metformin-associated lactic acidosis (MALA) is rarely encountered, but has a high mortality rate, Conventional treatments include hemodialysis or continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT); however, when the disease progresses to end-stage, cardiac function is significantly inhibited, circulation cannot be maintained, CRRT cannot be tolerated, V-A extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) may be the last treatment. ⋯ The incidence of MALA is low, but mortality is very high. Intermittent hemodialysis or CRRT should be performed if the lactic acid level is persistently elevated. When severe circulatory dysfunction occurs and cardiac function is inhibited, V-A ECMO support should be performed immediately to maintain circulation, followed by CRRT, which may be the final measure to treat refractory MALA.
