Sex-dependent difference in the relationship between thyroid hormones and gallstone disease in euthyroid subjects.
The relationship between thyroid dysfunction and gallstone disease (GSD) has been examined by some observational studies. However, evidence about the relationship between thyroid function and GSD among euthyroid subjects was scarce. The aim of this study was to investigate the association between thyroid function and the presence of GSD in a large-sample euthyroid subjects. ⋯ Subgroup analyses showed that the relationship between thyroid function and GSD was different according to gender, with negative association for ln (TT3/TT4) and (odds ratio:0.551, 95% CI: 0.306-0.992, P = .047) and positive association for TT4 (odds ratio:1.077, 1 95% CI: .001-1.158, P = .046) in men. None of the thyroid function parameters was significantly associated with GSD in women. Our findings indicated that low levels of TT3-to-TT4 ratio and high levels of TT4 were significantly and independently associated with GSD among euthyroid male subjects, but not female subjects.

To explore the latent classes of stigma in patients with rheumatoid arthritis, we analyzed the characteristics of the different categories. Adopting a convenient sampling method, socio-demographic and disease-related information from the outpatient clinics and wards of 3 tertiary care hospitals in China was collected. The Chinese version of the Internalized Stigma of Mental Illness scale-Rheumatoid Arthritis was used in this survey. ⋯ Strong alienation is an early warning of heavy stigma. Resistance to stigma and family support can help patients overcome their psychological obstacles. More attention should be paid to constructing family centered support systems to help resist stigma.

Osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) is a kind of disabling disease, given that the molecular mechanism of ONFH has not been elucidated, it is of significance to use bioinformatics analysis to understand the disease mechanism of ONFH and discover biomarkers. Gene set for ONFH GSE74089 was downloaded in the Gene Expression Omnibus, and "limma" package in R software was used to identify differentially expressed genes related to oxidative stress. Gene Ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathway enrichment analyze were performed for functional analysis. ⋯ CIBERSORT analysis showed that 17 types immune cells were differentially relocated, and most of which were also closely related to key genes. In addition, genistein maybe potential therapeutic compound. In all, we identified that TNF, NOS3, and CASP3 played key roles on ONFH, and APOD, CASP3, NOS3, and TNF could serve as diagnostic biomarkers.

Airway-Occluding Mucus Plugs and Mortality in Patients With Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease.
Airway mucus plugs are common in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD); however, the association of airway mucus plugging and mortality in patients with COPD is unknown. ⋯ In participants with COPD, the presence of mucus plugs that obstructed medium- to large-sized airways was associated with higher all-cause mortality compared with patients without mucus plugging on chest CT scans.

Cystic fibrosis, a genetic disorder defined by variants in the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) gene, affects more than 30 000 individuals in the US and approximately 89 000 worldwide. Absent or decreased function of the CFTR protein is associated with multiorgan dysfunction and shortened life expectancy. ⋯ Cystic fibrosis affects approximately 89 000 people worldwide and is associated with a spectrum of disease related to exocrine dysfunction, including chronic respiratory bacterial infections and reduced life expectancy. First-line pulmonary therapies consist of mucolytics, anti-inflammatories, and antibiotics, and approximately 90% of people with cystic fibrosis who are 2 years or older may benefit from a combination of ivacaftor, tezacaftor, and elexacaftor.
