The new coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic is raging worldwide. The administered vaccination has become a significant vehicle against the virus. Three hypotheses were made and required for validation: the number of vaccines administered is related to the country gross domestic product (GDP), vaccines can reduce the fatality rate (FR), and dashboards can present more meaningful information than traditionally static visualizations. Research data were downloaded from the GitHub website. The aims of this study are to verify that the number of vaccination uptakes is related to the country GDP, that vaccines can reduce FR, and that dashboards can provide more meaningful information than traditionally static visualizations. ⋯ This research uses the Kano map, forest plot, and choropleth map to verify the 3 hypotheses and provides insights into the vaccination effect against the FR for relevant epidemic studies in the future.

Due to the urgency of controlling the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic, coronavirus disease 2019 messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) vaccines have been expeditiously approved and introduced in several countries without sufficient evaluation for adverse events. We analyzed adverse events among Korean healthcare workers who received all 3 doses of the BNT162b2 mRNA vaccine. This survey was conducted among hospital workers of Inha University Hospital who had received the BNT162b2 mRNA vaccine for their first, second, third rounds, and using a diary card. ⋯ However, grade 4 adverse events did occur with the third dose in some patients, even if there were no side effects with the first and second doses. Adverse events experienced with the first and second doses of the BNT162b2 mRNA vaccine in Korean healthcare workers increased the incidence of adverse events at the time of the third dose. On the other hand, grade 4 adverse events could still occur with the third dose even though there were no side effects with the first and second doses.

Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a lung disease that is both chronic and progressive and is characterized by glycolysis. However, glycolysis's function and its clinical significance in IPF are still not well understood. We accessed the Gene Expression Omnibus database to retrieve mRNA expression information for lung tissue and other samples. ⋯ All 3 glycolysis-associated genes were validated to be expressed in our cohort. Finally, we used mRNA levels from 3 genes to produce a nomogram to quantitatively predict the prognosis of IPF individuals. As possible indicators for the prognosis of IPF, the glycolysis-related genes stanniocalcin 2, transketolase like 1, and artemin were shown to be promising candidate markers.

As in other types of cancer, tumor markers are used in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) for disease follow-up, especially after surgery. There has been shown to be a significant correlation between the tumor marker levels and poor prognosis in locally or systemic advanced stage PDAC patients. However, there is no significant correlation between prognosis and marker levels in patients with early stage PDAC patients. ⋯ This cutoff value had a sensitivity of 79.4% and a specificity of 80.3% for lymph node metastasis. Patients with a Ca19-9/CEA ratio below the cutoff value of 28.475 had a mean survival of 93.161 months and those with a value higher than the cutoff value had a mean survival of 28.541 months (P < .001). A simple combination of tumor markers was determined to have higher accuracy rates in predicting tumor prognosis and in determining mean survival, which are particularly needed in early stage cancers.
