The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence and symptoms of dysmenorrhea, its relevant factors, and the rate of seeking medical help in a group of nursing students. A total of 380 students were included in the study. The demographic data questionnaire, a Daily Menstrual Symptom Rating Scale (DMSR), and the Visual Analog Scale for pain (VASP) were used as tools for data collection. ⋯ Although dysmenorrhea is a gynecological problem that is commonly seen in young women and that negatively affects daily activities and school life, the rate of seeking medical help is low. Adolescents should, therefore, be educated and counseled to determine the underlying cause and to increase the use of an effective treatment method. Considering that nurses should be better informed about dysmenorrhea causes and treatment options, a study of nursing students was undertaken.

Pseudotumor cerebri syndrome (PTCS) refers to the primary and secondary disorders that cause elevated intracranial pressure without an intracranial mass lesion, ventriculomegaly, or central nervous system infection or malignancy. Headache is the most frequent symptom of PTCS, but there is considerable overlap between the headache features of raised intracranial pressure and the headache features of primary headache disorders. We review headache subtypes that occur in PTCS, non-headache features that help distinguish PTCS from other headache types, changes to the diagnostic criteria for PTCS with and without papilledema, and headache treatment strategies as they apply to PTCS.

Comparison of location, depth, quality, and intensity of experimentally induced pain in 6 low back muscles.
The pattern of pain originating from experimentally induced low back pain appears diffuse. This may be because sensory information from low back muscles converges, sensory innervation extends over multiple vertebral levels, or people have difficulty accurately representing the painful location on standardized pain maps. ⋯ Depth and lateral position may be the most critical descriptors to determine the source of acute lumbar muscular pain. Overlapping regions of pain may be explained by convergence of receptive fields, innervation of multifidus fascicles at multiple lumbar segments, and convergence of sensory input from different muscles to the same sensory cell bodies as demonstrated in the lumbar spine of animal preparations.

To evaluate the diagnotic value of the Assessment of Spondyloarthritis International Society (ASAS) classification criteria for axial spondyloarthritis (SpA) in Chinese patients with chronic back pain and without radiographic sacroiliitis in a 2-year follow-up study. ⋯ The ASAS classification criteria for axial SpA showed good concordance in diagnosing Chinese axial SpA patients in this prospective study. Set 1 criteria involving sacroiliitis plus more than one SpA feature had better diagnosing value.

Recent rise in fraudulent disability claims in the United States has resulted in psychologists being increasingly called upon to use psychological tests to determine whether disability claims based on psychological or somatic/pain complaints are legitimate. ⋯ The results suggest that both the MSPQ and PDI are useful to screen for pain malingering in forensic evaluations, especially the MSPQ, which performed the best in differentiating between the groups.
