[Incidence and predisposing factors of persistent backache after lumbar catheter epidural anesthesia in a non-obstetrical settingø].
To determine the incidence of long term backache after lumbar epidural anesthesia with catheter (EPA) in the non-obstetrical setting. ⋯ The incidence of long term backache after EPA in the non-obstetrical setting is 11.5% and almost exclusively associated with pre-existing back pain. Biometrical factors seem to play no role. In patients with pre-existing back pain satisfaction with the anesthetic procedure might be improved by improving informed consent.

Introduction. At the present time, there is no reliable method or drug for effective relief of the severe pain caused by the amyloldotic polyneuropathy (AP). Objective. ⋯ The patient had the IT treatment for 867 days, of which 777 days (> 90%) were spent at home. Conclusion. Long-term IT administration of opioid and bupivacaine provided satisfactory long-term pain relief in a patient with refractory pain due to AP.

A retrospective population study. ⋯ The Swedish society has provided ample social benefits to allow the pregnant woman to take leave from work, without having to be labeled as "ill," because of normal conditions such as back pain during pregnancy. Instead of an expected decrease in sick leave because of back pain during pregnancy, an increase was observed.
