ReviewPrognostic factors of chronic postsurgical pain following gastrointestinal surgery: A systematic review protocol.
Chronic postsurgical pain (CPSP) presents a considerable healthcare challenge, impacting patients, and healthcare providers, particularly in the context of gastrointestinal surgery. The notable incidence of CPSP in this specific surgical domain emphasizes the need to identify patients with a high risk of developing this condition. Despite various studies exploring this topic, a comprehensive systematic review focusing on prognostic factors of CPSP following gastrointestinal surgery is currently lacking. Therefore, the aim of this systematic review is, through systematically examination of existing literature, to assess both established and potentially novel prognostic factors, associated with CPSP following gastrointestinal surgery. ⋯ By creating a comprehensive overview of important prognostic factors for the development of CPSP following gastrointestinal surgery, the findings of this systematic review have the potential to guide future research and to enhance patient information resources.

Meta AnalysisRisk Factors for Postanesthetic Emergence Delirium in Adults: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis.
Emergence delirium (ED) is delirium that occurs during or immediately after emergence from general anesthesia or sedation. Effective pharmacological treatments for ED are lacking, so preventive measures should be taken to minimize the risk of ED. However, the risk factors for ED in adults are unclear. ⋯ Postoperative risk factors were indwelling urinary catheters, the presence of a tracheal tube in the postanesthetic care unit or intensive care unit, the presence of a nasogastric tube, and pain. Knowledge of these risk factors may guide the implementation of stratified management and timely interventions for patients at high risk of ED. The majority of studies included in this review investigated only hyperactive ED and further research is required to determine risk factors for hypoactive and mixed ED types.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Comparative StudySubxiphoid versus Lateral Intercostal Thoracoscopic Thymectomy for Suspected Thymoma: Results of a Randomized Controlled Trial.
This trial was to evaluate the efficacy of subxiphoid approach thoracoscopic thymectomy for postoperative pain control and length of hospital stay compared with a lateral intercostal approach thoracoscopic thymectomy. ⋯ This study found improved pain and similar length of hospital stay associated with the subxiphoid approach compared with the lateral intercostal approach in patients with suspected Masaoka-Koga I-II thymoma.

The Effects of Perineural Dexamethasone on Rebound Pain After Nerve Block in Patients with Unicompartmental Knee Arthroplasty A Randomized Controlled Trial.
A single nerve block provides excellent analgesia in a short time, but rebound pain after the nerve block dissipates has attracted researchers' attention. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of perineural dexamethasone on rebound pain after sciatic nerve block and femoral nerve block in patients undergoing unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA). ⋯ The addition of dexmedetomidine to ropivacaine for UKA effectively prolonged the duration of nerve block and decreased C-reactive protein levels, but increased the incidence of rebound pain and rebound pain score, and had no beneficial effects on the postoperative analgesia.
