Anterior lumbar interbody fusion (ALIF) has gained popularity for the treatment of degenerative disease of the lumbar spine. In this report, we present our experience with the ALIF procedure for treatment of failed back surgery syndrome following lumbar discectomy in a noncontrolled retrospective cohort. ⋯ On the basis of our results, we found ALIF to be a safe and effective procedure for the treatment of failed back surgery syndrome.

What works best for whom? An exploratory, subgroup analysis in a randomized, controlled trial on the effectiveness of a workplace intervention in low back pain patients on return to work.
Exploratory subgroup analysis in a randomized controlled trial (RCT). ⋯ The findings from these exploratory analyses should be tested in future RCTs. This workplace intervention seems very suitable for return to work of older workers and workers with previous sick leave. Gender, perceived heavy work, and baseline scores in pain and functional status should not be a basis for assignment to this intervention.

Translation, cross-cultural adaptation, and validation were performed on the Chinese version of the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI). ⋯ The results showed that the translation and adaptation were successful. The SCODI has proven to be valid and reliable when used in the simplified Chinese speaking population.
