Previous systematic reviews have concluded that the effectiveness of motor control exercise for persistent low back pain has not been clearly established. ⋯ Motor control exercise is superior to minimal intervention and confers benefit when added to another therapy for pain at all time points and for disability at long-term follow-up. Motor control exercise is not more effective than manual therapy or other forms of exercise.

Objective. This study aims to evaluate the usefulness of peripheral nerve stimulation as a treatment option for patients with chronic low back pain. Materials and Methods. More than 12 months, we collected data on consecutive patients who had successful trials and were subsequently implanted with octrode percutaneous leads placed subcutaneously within the major area of pain. Eleven patients met diagnostic criteria for failed back surgery syndrome. ⋯ Pain relief was highly correlated with reduced analgesia and patient satisfaction. No complications were reported. Conclusion. This study demonstrates a treatment option that is safe, nonpharmacologic, reversible, and effective for patients with chronic low back pain that have exhausted other treatment options.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study
Efficacy and safety of two generic copies of nimesulide in patients with low back pain or knee osteoarthritis.
Two generic bioequivalent copies of the same drug sometimes do not achieve therapeutic equivalence. This may produce adverse events in clinical practice if the therapeutic index of that drug is narrow. ⋯ T and N are equally effective and safe forms of nimesulide for pain management in low back pain and knee osteoarthritis. Price per daily dose is a relevant parameter for making a choice. However, regulations regarding drug bioequivalence criteria should be met for drug marketing authorization submission.

Reliability of rehabilitative ultrasound imaging of the transversus abdominis and lumbar multifidus muscles.
To evaluate the intraexaminer and interexaminer reliability of rehabilitative ultrasound imaging (RUSI) in obtaining thickness measurements of the transversus abdominis (TrA) and lumbar multifidus muscles at rest and during contractions. ⋯ RUSI thickness measurements of the TrA and lumbar multifidus muscles in patients with LBP, when based on the mean of 2 measures, are highly reliable when taken by a single examiner and adequately reliable when taken by different examiners.

Comparative StudyObjective and subjective assessment of sleep in chronic low back pain patients compared with healthy age and gender matched controls: a pilot study.
While approximately 70% of chronic low back pain (CLBP) sufferers complain of sleep disturbance, current literature is based on self report measures which can be prone to bias and no objective data of sleep quality, based exclusively on CLBP are available. In accordance with the recommendations of The American Sleep Academy, when measuring sleep, both subjective and objective assessments should be considered as the two are only modestly correlated, suggesting that each modality assesses different aspects of an individual's sleep experience. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to expand previous research into sleep disturbance in CLBP by comparing objective and subjective sleep quality in participants with CLBP and healthy age and gender matched controls, to identify correlates of poor sleep and to test logistics and gather information prior to a larger study. ⋯ CLBP participants demonstrated poorer overall sleep, increased insomnia symptoms and less efficient sleep. Further investigation using a larger sample size and a longer period of sleep monitoring is ongoing.
