To evaluate the relationship between lifestyle behaviours, emotional health factors, and low back pain (LBP) resilience. ⋯ Findings from this study suggest that people who adopt optimal lifestyle behaviours and positive emotional factors are more likely to be resilient and maintain high levels of function despite suffering from LBP.

Comparison of Effect and Contrast Spreading in Transforaminal Epidural Injection Using the Retrodiscal Versus Subpedicular Approach: A Prospective, Randomized Trial.
Lumbar transforaminal epidural injection (TFEI) effectively decreases low back pain and radicular pain in herniated intervertebral disc (HIVD) and spinal stenosis (SS). The precise delivery of drugs to the target is important for pain control and minimizing complications. ⋯ The RD approach for TFEI showed a better contrast spreading pattern than the SP approach, especially in patients with severe central and foraminal spinal stenosis. The RD approach might be more beneficial for patients with severe central and foraminal spinal stenosis in the short-term follow-up.

An online randomised experiment found that the labels lumbar sprain, non-specific low back pain (LBP), and episode of back pain reduced perceived need for imaging, surgery and second opinions compared to disc bulge, degeneration, and arthritis among 1447 participants with and without LBP. They also reduced perceived seriousness of LBP and increased recovery expectations. ⋯ Our results suggest that clinicians should consider avoiding the labels disc bulge, degeneration and arthritis and opt for labels that are associated with positive beliefs and less preference for surgery, when communicating with patients with LBP.

Randomized Controlled TrialAnalgesic Effectiveness and Dorsal Root Ganglia Protein Modulation of a Peripheral Adenosine Monophosphate Kinase Alpha Activator (O304) Following Lumbar Disk Puncture in the Mouse.
Disk herniation is a primary cause of radicular back pain. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the antiallodynic effective dose in 50% of the sample (ED 50 ) and dorsal root ganglion (DRG) protein modulation of a peripheral direct adenosine monophosphate kinase alpha (AMPKα) activator (O304) in a murine model of lumbar disk puncture. ⋯ The direct peripheral AMPK activator O304 reduced allodynia in a dose-dependent manner, and immunoblot studies of the DRG showed that O304 increased p-AMPK and decreased TRPA1, p-ERK1/2, as well as translation factors involved in neuroplasticity. Our findings confirm the role of peripheral AMPKα activation in modulating nociceptive pain.

Chronic low back pain is one of the most common musculoskeletal disorders in different countries. ⋯ Personal, psychological, and psychosocial parameters can be among the most critical predictors in the chronicity of acute and subacute nonspecific LBP. Hence, paying attention to all the mentioned factors at the beginning of patients' treatment to create a targeted treatment algorithm and prevent the conversion of acute and subacute into chronic LBP has particular importance.
