The somatotopic organization of the human cerebellum processes somato-motoric input. Its role during pain perception for nociceptive input remains ambiguous. A standardized experimental trigeminal nociceptive input in functional imaging might clarify the role of the cerebellum in trigeminal nociception. Also of interest is the greater occipital nerve, which innervates the back of the head, and can influence the trigeminal perception due to functional coupling within the brainstem, forming the so-called trigemino-cervical complex. ⋯ The study expands the current knowledge on facial and head pain processing by the cerebellum and provides an initial somatotopic map of the trigemino-cervical complex in the human cerebellum with a predominant representation of the first trigeminal branch.

Background: Critical care management of shock is a labor-intensive process. Precision Automated Critical Care Management (PACC-MAN) is an automated closed-loop system incorporating physiologic and hemodynamic inputs to deliver interventions while avoiding excessive fluid or vasopressor administration. To understand PACC-MAN efficacy, we compared PACC-MAN to provider-directed management (PDM). ⋯ Urine outputs were similar between PACC-MAN and PDM (14.0 mL/kg vs. 21.5 mL/kg, P = 0.13). Conclusion : Automated resuscitation achieves equivalent resuscitation outcomes to direct human intervention in this shock model. This study provides the first translational experience with the PACC-MAN system versus PDM.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) models like GPT-3.5 and GPT-4 have shown promise across various domains but remain underexplored in healthcare. Emergency Departments (ED) rely on established scoring systems, such as NIHSS and HEART score, to guide clinical decision-making. This study aims to evaluate the proficiency of GPT-3.5 and GPT-4 against experienced ED physicians in calculating five commonly used medical scores. ⋯ While AI models demonstrated some level of concordance with human expertise, they fell short in emulating the complex clinical judgments that physicians make. The study suggests that current AI models may serve as supplementary tools but are not ready to replace human expertise in high-stakes settings like the ED. Further research is needed to explore the capabilities and limitations of AI in emergency medicine.

Little is known about human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) education in family medicine clerkships during medical school. Our study aimed to describe coverage of PrEP education in family medicine clerkships and explore barriers if this education was absent. ⋯ Clerkships were more likely to include PrEP curriculum in the family medicine clerkship if they had faculty with sufficient expertise or if clerkship directors believed it was important to teach PrEP in the curriculum. Offering accessible educational content can enhance educational opportunities on PrEP for medical students.
