Perioperative hypotension increases postoperative complication rates and prolongs postoperative recovery time. Whether Passive Leg Raising test (PLR) and Subclavian Vein Diameter (DSCV) can effectively predict post-anesthesia hypotension remains to be tested. This study aimed to identify specific predictors of General Anesthesia (GA)induced hypotension by measuring DSCV in the supine versus PLR position. ⋯ ΔDSCV has predictive value for hypotension after general anesthesia.

Dravet syndrome (DS) is a rare and severe myoclonic epilepsy, with onset commonly occurring in infancy. Seizures are triggered by various causes, including fever, bathing, and light stimulus. DS is refractory to drug treatment. Moreover, status epilepticus (SE) can cause serious encephalopathy and epilepsy-related deaths. There are very few reports of general anesthesia in DS patients. Herein, we report our experience with the anesthetic management of a pediatric patient with DS. ⋯ It is essential to pay attention to managing BT and to avoid drugs that induce seizures during anesthesia for patients with DS. Cautious preoperative planning for anesthesia based on evaluation of the patient and rapid postoperative response in collaboration with the attending pediatrician is necessary in case an epileptic seizure occurs.

Background and Objectives: This study aims to investigate whether erector spinae plane (ESP) block can be an alternative to general anesthesia as a primary anesthesia method in percutaneous balloon kyphoplasty surgery. In addition, postoperative intensive care needs were compared in terms of length of intensive care unit stay and length of hospital stay. Materials and Methods: Medical records of patients who underwent percutaneous balloon kyphoplasty operation at Kastamonu Training and Research Hospital between January 2020 and November 2022 were reviewed retrospectively. ⋯ A statistically significant difference was found in Group GA and Group ESP, which was higher in Group GA for the length of stay in the intensive care unit (p = 0.02) and length of hospitalization (p = 0.04). Conclusions: ESP block may be an alternative method to general anesthesia as the primary anesthetic option for single or multilevel percutaneous balloon kyphoplasty surgery. With the ESP block, the length of stay in the intensive care unit and the length of stay in the hospital can be reduced, especially in high-risk patients.

Compound lidocaine/prilocaine cream combined with tetracaine prevents cough caused by extubation after general anaesthesia: a randomised controlled trial.
Coughing caused by tracheal extubation is common following general anaesthesia. Heavy aerosol production by coughing during recovery from general anaesthesia in patients with respiratory infections (especially COVID-19) may be one of the highest risk factors for infection in healthcare workers. The application of local anaesthetics to the endotracheal tube is an effective method to reduce coughing. The most commonly used anaesthetics are compound lidocaine/prilocaine cream and tetracaine spray. However, coughing still occurs when the two anaesthetics are used alone. We speculated that the application of compound lidocaine/prilocaine combined with tetracaine spray would better prevent coughing caused by tracheal extubation. ⋯ Compound lidocaine/prilocaine cream combined with tetracaine may be a more effective approach for preventing coughing and stabilising circulation during extubation following general anaesthesia. This may play an important role in preventing medical staff from contracting respiratory infectious diseases.
