Recommendations for selection of self-report pain intensity measures in children and adolescents: a systematic review and quality assessment of measurement properties.
In 2006, PAIN published a systematic review of the measurement properties of self-report pain intensity measures in children and adolescents (Stinson JN, Kavanagh T, Yamada J, Gill N, Stevens B. Systematic review of the psychometric properties, interpretability and feasibility of self-report pain intensity measures for use in clinical trials in children and adolescents. PAIN 2006;125:143-57). ⋯ Only weak recommendations could be made for self-report measures for postoperative and chronic pain. No measures were recommended for children younger than 6 years, identifying a need for further measurement refinement in this age range. Clinical practice and future research implications are discussed.

Psychosocial factors associated with poor outcomes after amputation for complex regional pain syndrome type-I.
Amputation for longstanding therapy resistant complex regional pain syndrome type-I (CRPS-I) is controversial. Reported results are inconsistent. It is assumed that psychological factors play a role in CRPS-I. ⋯ Poor outcomes of amputation in longstanding therapy resistant CPRS-1 are associated with psychological factors. Outstanding life events are not associated with poor outcome although half of the participants had experienced outstanding life events.

The aim of this study is to compare the effectiveness of dry needling therapy combined with exercise and exercise treatment alone for alleviating the dizziness caused by cervical myofascial pain syndrome. ⋯ Both dry needling + exercise therapy and exercise therapy alone were effective in treating dizziness caused by cervical myofascial pain syndrome. However, dry needling + exercise treatment was superior to exercise treatment alone.

The challenges of moving the pain education agenda forward are significant worldwide, and resources, including online, are needed to help educators in curriculum development. Online resources are available but with insufficient evaluation in the context of prelicensure pain education. Therefore, this pre-post study examined the impact of an innovative eLearning model: the Pain Education Interprofessional Resource (PEIR) on usability, pain knowledge, beliefs, and understanding of pain assessment skills including empathy. ⋯ PEIR is an effective eLearning program with high student ratings for educational design and usability that significantly improved pain knowledge and understanding of collaborative care.

Limitations in physical function and participation are important domains of assessment in chronic pain. In 1995, the International Association for the Study of Pain distributed a self-report measure of functional limitations. Although the questionnaire has been used in research studies, it has never been subjected to a thorough investigation of its measurement properties. ⋯ In conclusion, the LIDAS is a reliable, valid, and clinically relevant option for assessing limitations in physical function and participation in patients with chronic pain. PERSPECTIVE: Physical function and participation comprise a core dimension in the assessment of chronic pain. This study demonstrates that the LIDAS is a reliable and valid measure of this dimension, with good applicability for documenting clinically important change with treatment.
