Randomized Controlled TrialIntramuscular Diclofenac Vs Periprostatic Lidocaine Injection For Controlling Pain Undergoing Transrectal Ultrasound Guided Prostatic Biopsy.
Transrectal ultrasound (TRUS) technique for getting prostatic tissue for histopathology is now the standard procedure for malignant lesions of the prostate and imperative diagnostic investigation of patients with clinical specks of prostatic neoplasia. During TRUS guided biopsy, pain control has been important issue therefore, highly potent analgesia before this procedure should be considered on high priority according to current census. Therefore, we compared intramuscular diclofenac injection with sensory blockade of injection lidocaine to abolish pain undergoing prostatic biopsy with TRUS technique. ⋯ Local blockade with lidocaine injection has better pain control as compared to patients experienced pain with intramuscular diclofenac used for prostatic biopsy through TRUS technique..

Fear of pain is highly correlated with pain report and physiological measures of arousal when pain is inflicted. The Fear of Pain Questionnaire III (FPQ-III) and The Fear of Pain Questionnaire Short Form (FPQ-SF) are self-report inventories developed for assessment of fear of pain (FOP). A previous study assessed the fit of the FPQ-III and the FPQ-SF in a Norwegian non-clinical sample and proved poor fit of both models. This inspired the idea of testing the possibility of a Norwegian FOP-model. ⋯ This study highlights the importance on exploratory analysis of FOP-instruments when applied to different countries or cultures. As the FPQ-III is widely used in both research and clinical settings, it is important to ensure that the models construct validity is high. Country specific validation of FOP in both clinical and non-clinical samples is recommended.

Minimal clinically important difference for pain on the VAS scale and the relation to quality of life in women with endometriosis.
The minimal important difference can be helpful in interpreting data from clinical trials. The objective of the study was to calculate the minimal important difference for improvement on the VAS scale for women with endometriosis. ⋯ If the patients have a pain level of at least 50mm on VAS scale at inclusion, the cut off for success in clinical trials is suggested to be defined as an either >40mm or a >50% decrease on VAS scale. Trial registry ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier: NCT01329796.

Chiropractic Management for US Female Veterans With Low Back Pain: A Retrospective Study of Clinical Outcomes.
The purpose of this study was to determine if female US veterans had clinically significant improvement in low back pain after chiropractic management. ⋯ For our sample of female veterans with low back pain, clinical outcomes from baseline to discharge improved under chiropractic care. Although further research is warranted, chiropractic care may be of value in contributing to the pain management needs of this unique patient population.

Chronic migraine (CM) is a highly debilitating disease, and many patients remain refractory to medicinal therapy. Given the convergent nature of neuronal networks in the ventral posteromedial nucleus (VPM) and the evidence of sensitization of pain circuitry in this disease, we hypothesize CM rats will have increased VPM neuronal firing, which can be attenuated using occipital nerve stimulation (ONS). ⋯ We demonstrate that neuronal spike frequencies and bursting activity in the VPM are increased in an animal model of CM compared to shams. Our results suggest that the mechanism of ONS may involve attenuation of neurons in the VPM of CM rats during the application of mechanical stimuli.
