The Screener and Opioid Assessment for Patients with Pain-Revised (SOAPP-R) is a 24-item questionnaire designed to assess risk of aberrant medication-related behaviors in chronic pain patients. The introduction of short forms of the SOAPP-R may save time and increase utilization by practitioners. ⋯ The 12-item version of the SOAPP-R has potential as a short risk screener and should be tested prospectively.

Continuous Regional Anesthesia and Inpatient Rehabilitation for Pediatric Complex Regional Pain Syndrome.
Evidence supports treatment of pediatric complex regional pain syndromes (CRPS) with physical and occupational therapy and cognitive-behavioral therapy. Some patients have persistent pain and/or limb dysfunction despite these treatments. We performed a retrospective study of pediatric patients with CRPS treated by continuous epidural or peripheral perineural local anesthetic infusions along with inpatient rehabilitation at Boston Children's Hospital. ⋯ Continuous regional anesthesia may be an option to facilitate intensive rehabilitation for selected pediatric patients with CRPS. Further research should help clarify the role of regional anesthesia in a comprehensive management program.

To investigate the longitudinal relationship between pain interference and incident general medical conditions in a nationally representative sample. ⋯ These findings suggest that the relationship between pain interference and general medical conditions is complex. A more complete understanding of this relationship is likely to involve further exploration of possible mechanisms, including whether it is the pain itself, the ascertainment of pain etiology, or pain treatment that is associated with incident general medical conditions.

Observational StudyAn Observational Study on Recurrences of Low Back Pain During the First 12 Months After Chiropractic Treatment.
The purpose of this study was to investigate recurrence rate and prognostic factors in a large population of patients with low back pain (LBP) up to 1 year after chiropractic care using standardized definitions. ⋯ Recurrence rate was low in this LBP patient population. The duration of complaint before treatment was the main predictor for recurrence. The fact that even subacute duration significantly increased the odds for an unfavorable course of LBP is of clinical relevance.
