As the prevalence of chronic non-specific spinal pain rises, the utilization of diverse massage devices for therapeutic intervention increases rapidly. However, research on their mechanisms, particularly those involving spinal twisting, is limited. This study was designed to evaluate the impact of heat application and spinal twisting massage techniques on individuals suffering from chronic non-specific spinal pain. ⋯ Despite improvements in K-WOMAC and PPT scores within the experimental group, statistical significance remained elusive. Furthermore, spine tilt and Cobb angle showed no significant differences from baseline to the 6th week. In conclusion, the application of thermotherapy coupled with twisting massage demonstrates significant efficacy in mitigating chronic non-specific spinal pain, surpassing the pain-relief outcomes achieved through heat therapy in combination with standard vibration massage techniques.

Early postoperative pain and 30-day complications following major abdominal surgery: a retrospective cohort study.
Increasing evidence supports a positive relationship between the intensity of early postoperative pain, and the risk of 30-day postoperative complications. Higher pain levels may hamper recovery and contribute to immunosuppression after surgery. This leaves patients at risk of postoperative complications. ⋯ After major abdominal surgery, higher postoperative pain scores on day 1 are associated with an increased risk of 30-day postoperative complications. Further studies should pursue whether optimization of perioperative analgesia can improve immune homeostasis, reduce complications after surgery and enhance postoperative recovery.

To understand whether pain-related factors soon after a whiplash injury can explain the presence of chronic headache. ⋯ The risk of presenting with persistent headache attributed to a whiplash injury is increased when people present with higher neck pain intensity and pain catastrophizing soon after a whiplash injury. Evaluating neck pain intensity and pain catastrophizing at baseline may assist in identifying those more likely to develop chronic headache, potentially providing an opportunity for early targeted interventions.

Randomized Controlled TrialPain monitoring in intensive care: How does the nociception level index affect treatment and prognosis? A randomized, controlled, double-blind trial.
Effective pain management is vital in critical care settings, particularly post-surgery. Clinicians should maintain objective and efficient standards to assess pain in a patient-centered manner, in order to effectively manage this complex issue. A newer technology, the nociception level (NOL) index, shows promise in achieving this task through its multi-parameter evaluation. ⋯ Monitoring pain using the nociception level index is an effective method for detecting pain compared to standard pain scores utilized in critical care. Its guidance facilitates personalized analgesic titration. Additionally, the potential of nociception level index guidance to reduce the duration of intensive care and hospital stays may be linked to its effects on delirium, a connection that awaits further exploration in future studies.
