Neuropathic pain, defined as pain arising as a consequence of a lesion or disease affecting the somatosensory nervous system, requires precise diagnostic assessment. Different diagnostic tools have been devised for the diagnosis of neuropathic pain. This review offers insights into the diagnostic accuracy of screening questionnaires and different tests that investigate the somatosensory nervous system, in patients with suspected neuropathic pain. Thus, it illustrates how these tools can aid clinicians in accurately diagnosing neuropathic pain.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study
Comparison of the efficacy and safety of transdermal buprenorphine patch to conventional analgesics after operative fixation of extra capsular fracture of proximal femur.
Proximal femur fractures are common among older individuals and pose challenges in achieving effective post-operative analgesia. Age-related co-morbidities limit the selection of analgesics in this population. This study aimed to compare the safety and effectiveness of transdermal buprenorphine (TDB) patch with traditional analgesics after fixation of an extracapsular fracture of the proximal femur. ⋯ TDB patch is secure and offers better compliance and analgesia than other analgesics in the postoperative period whilst treating proximal femur extra capsular fracture.

Changes in pain scores that represent clinically significant differences in children with headaches are necessary for study design and interpretation of findings reported in studies. We aimed to determine changes in pain scores associated with a minimum clinically significant difference (MCSD), ideal clinically significant difference (ICSD), and patient-perceived adequate analgesia (PPAA) in this population. ⋯ We identified changes in pain score associated with patient-centered outcomes in children with headaches suitable for designing trials and assigning clinical significance to changes in pain scores reported in studies.

Assessment of Clinical Outcomes in Patients With Osteoarthritis: Analysis From the UK Medical Cannabis Registry.
Osteoarthritis accounts for 0.6% of disability-adjusted life years globally. There is a paucity of research focused on cannabis-based medicinal products (CBMPs) for osteoarthritic chronic pain management. This study aims to assess changes in validated patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) and CBMP clinical safety in patients with osteoarthritis. ⋯ There were improvements in the EQ-5D-5L index (p = 0.026), SQS (p < 0.001), and GAD-7 (p = 0.038) up to 6 and 3 months, respectively. Seventeen participants (22.08%) recorded 76 mild AEs (34.86%), 104 moderate AEs (47.71%), and 38 severe AEs (17.43%). Though causality cannot be assumed in this observational study, results support development of randomized control trials for osteoarthritis pain management with CBMPs.

Long-term pain outcomes after serial lidocaine infusion in participants with recent onset of peripheral neuropathic pain: A pilot double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial.
This study investigated the outcomes up to 12 weeks after serial lidocaine infusion for early-onset peripheral neuropathic pain. ⋯ Multiple lidocaine infusions of 3 mg/kg once a week for 4 weeks in participants with recent onset of peripheral neuropathic pain demonstrated no significant benefits in pain intensity, quality of life, or psychological outcomes. At most, this treatment may result in less tramadol use.
