Adolescents with juvenile-onset fibromyalgia (JFM) have increased rates of psychiatric disorders, but to our knowledge no studies have examined psychiatric disorders in adolescents with JFM when they enter young adulthood. This study examined the prevalence of psychiatric disorders in young adults diagnosed with JFM during adolescence and the relationship between mental health diagnoses and physical functioning. ⋯ Psychiatric disorders are prevalent in young adulthood for individuals with a history of JFM, and a current major mood disorder is associated with greater physical impairment. Greater attention to early identification and treatment of mood disorders in patients with JFM is warranted.

Randomized Controlled TrialThe Effect of Systemic Magnesium on Postsurgical Pain in Children Undergoing Tonsillectomies: A -Double-Blinded, Randomized, Placebo-Controlled Trial.
Tonsillectomy is a frequently performed surgical procedure in children; however, few multimodal analgesic strategies have been shown to improve postsurgical pain in this patient population. Systemic magnesium infusions have been shown to reliably improve postoperative pain in adults, but their effects in pediatric surgical patients remain to be determined. In the current investigation, our main objective was to evaluate the use of systemic magnesium to improve postoperative pain in pediatric patients undergoing tonsillectomy. We hypothesized that children who received systemic magnesium infusions would have less post-tonsillectomy pain than the children who received saline infusions. ⋯ Despite a large number of studies demonstrating the efficacy of systemic magnesium for preventing postsurgical pain in adults, we could not find evidence for a significant clinical benefit of systemic magnesium infusion in children undergoing tonsillectomies. Our findings reiterate the importance of validating multimodal analgesic strategies in children that have been demonstrated to be effective in the adult population.

ReviewResponse assessment after stereotactic body radiotherapy for spinal metastasis: a report from the SPIne response assessment in Neuro-Oncology (SPINO) group.
The SPine response assessment In Neuro-Oncology (SPINO) group is a committee of the Response Assessment in Neuro-Oncology working group and comprises a panel of international experts in spine stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT). Here, we present the group's first report on the challenges in standardising imaging-based assessment of local control and pain for spinal metastases. ⋯ We summarise the results of an international survey of the panel to establish the range of current practices in assessing tumour response to spine SBRT. The ultimate goal of the SPINO group is to report consensus criteria for tumour imaging, clinical assessment, and symptom-based response criteria to help standardise future clinical trials.

The Reliability and Validity of the Cantonese Version of the Pain Treatment Satisfaction Scale (ChPTSS) in a Sample of Chinese Patients with Chronic Pain.
The Pain Treatment Satisfaction Scale (PTSS) was developed in a Western context for evaluating patients' satisfaction with pain treatment. Although the instrument was shown to possess good psychometric properties, its reliability and validity among ethnic Chinese has not been examined. This article reports the translation of the English-language version of the PTSS into Traditional Chinese Cantonese (ChPTSS) and the preliminary examination of the reliability and concurrent predictive validity of the ChPTSS. ⋯ Our results offer preliminary evidence for the reliability and concurrent predictive validity of the ChPTSS, which can be applied in Cantonese speaking context.

Randomized Controlled Trial Observational StudyA smartphone version of the Faces Pain Scale-Revised and the Color Analog Scale for postoperative pain assessment in children.
Effective pain assessment is essential during postoperative recovery. Extensive validation data are published supporting the Faces Pain Scale-Revised (FPS-R) and the Color Analog Scale (CAS) in children. Panda is a smartphone-based application containing electronic versions of these scales. ⋯ The Panda smartphone application can be used in lieu of the original FPS-R and CAS for assessment of pain in children. Children's preference for Panda may translate to improved cooperation with self-report of pain.
